Three Questions about Nassau, Bahamas

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are embarking on a 14 day cruise on Nieuw Statendam beginning January 5, 2020. I have three questions about Nassau, Bahamas. First: Is Paradise Island walkable from the cruise ship pier? If not, what form of transportation is available/recommended: Uber/Taxi/Shuttle/Hop on Hop Off? Second: We are thinking about lunch and would welcome recommendations. I always do a lot of research before a cruise, especially restaurants and have discovered two places that might work for us...Bahamian Cookin' and Luleka Kairi. If anyone has experience/opinion about those two please share it. If you have other recommendations please let me know what they are. Third: My wife is a fan of Batik. Does anyone know where to by it? Either as clothing or as straight fabric. Or, any recommendations about Batik on St. Thomas or in San Juan.

Thanks a bunch in advance.

Paradise Island isn't walkable from the port. Ask questions on the Bahamas board about beaches you can get to. Last I knew, which is a number of years ago, the big resorts don't let you walk in and go to their beaches.

Do NOT take the water taxi! They cram people onto those boats to a point that I find dangerous.

Paradise Island is definitely not walkable from the Nassau pier. Once you leave the port building there will be tons of vans going to Atlantis on Paradise Island. Not sure how much it costs now, but used to be $10 per person each way. I don't know about where to find batik in Nassau or anywhere else. If those restaurants aren't downtown (which is very walkable from the pier) you'll need to take a taxi. DH and I used to go to the casino in Cable Beach and always had a terrible time trying to find a taxi to take us there. All the vans want you to go to Atlantis. If those restaurants are in the Cable Beach area, you can take Jitney #10 (small bus) - from the pier walk up a block to Bay Street and walk a number of blocks on Bay Street to catch it there. Used to be really cheap like a dollar or so. We would return to the pier by taxi - easy to get one at the hotel/casino.

Agree! Plus I found the narration very loud and annoying to boot.

You cannot walk   to Paradise Island but there is a small  motor boat  'taxi'  you can easily get a ticket for at the pier.      Iam  Not sure but I seem to recall   tht pedestrians are not permited on the bridge.  Someone will correcgt me  if I am mistaken   Paradise Island is a high bridge  across from the cruise ship piers.  Or you can take an automobile taxi.  Very short ride.   (low fare)
