10 straight days at sea

Some cruise for the ship, some for the ports, and that's all good.  We like both, but no way we would pay to sit on a ship for 10 days straight.  Any ship.

 

As for the vet's, great stories and thanks.  But it's irrelevant to a discussion about paying for a cruise in 2019.  My Dad went to Europe on the Queen Mary on the way to the beaches of Normandy.  Don't know how many days it took, but it wasn't a cruise in any way.

Back in the haydays of cruising the Pacific, before Royal Caribbean, 1942-1945,  my dad did 33 straight sea days going from San Francisco to the Philippines.  Not a lot of onboard entertainment back then, mostly inside cabins.  Disembarkation was done via landing craft, including wading ashore with all your luggage, no porters, no tipping.

 

Probably no Formal, er I mean, Dress Your Best nights either.

The longer the cruise, the less people drink per day. I would also assume that this cruise is not going to be filled with partying 20 and 30-somethings... I'd be more concerned running out of wine than liquor on this itinerary. 🤣

 

As for food, I wouldn't be too concerned. I may not order a salad or shrimp cocktail on day 12... but beyond that, everything should be ok! 

 

By the way - I think this itinerary would be awesome. I love sea days!

That's what I meant.  No issues with frozen products, but fruit, veggies and fresh seafood will be an issue.

My only worry on a cruise with 10 sea days would be running out of money in the casino. 😀

 

Seriously, I love sea days. But after 5 or 7, I might start to get a little stir crazy. While I am basically a couch potato on vacay, I do like to see the scenery change once in a while.

I love vacation and any opportunity I can get to go somewhere. This one would be rough for me. First and foremost, it's on the Rhapsody. The Rhapsody isn't known for its plethora of entertainment options. With the length and itinerary, it's more likely to be an older crowd as well. Not going to be the most exciting cruise.

 

I much prefer port days. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the 2-3 sea days on an average cruise. However, having too many loses its allure.

Seafood won't be an issue if they do this. 😁  Crew fishing from Thomson ship while in port.

Yes, they are amazing. They keep the food nice and cold and fit for human consumption for more than a few days.   Who ever would have thought??? LOL 
 

I bet philp has things in the fridge and freezer at home that have been in there longer than 10 days.

We love sea days. We have done 2 TP and our first TA is next year. I don't remember how many sea days we had at a stretch, but I'm guessing it was no more than 6 - 8. There is usually something to do on the ship and I always bring a craft/hobby that I can work on that I don't have much time to do at home. Reading materials also help.

We have done 7 straight days but never 10. If not doing a TA or TP then I like a balance of Sea days & Port days.

Our first TA was on Brilliance in 2002 from Harwich, UK to Boston, MA - 7 days, no ports of call.  It was fabulous.  Clo O'Connor was the CD and she held a moving memorial program on the first anniversary of 9/11.  Captain James kept us out of harm's way as he carefully maneuvered the ship to minimize the effects of Hurricane Gustav.  We have done several TAs since then in both directions and have another scheduled next year which begins in Amsterdam and visits Norway, Iceland, and Greenland before ending up in Boston.  Before that original TA we spent a week sightseeing in London so the days at sea allowed us to arrive back in the US refreshed and reinvigorated.

Well it would depend on the price of the drink package for this itinerary. It's a pretty bad itinerary with only 2 ports of call. I'm not including Rome since it's a disembarkation port.

But for those of us wishing everyone would follow the "Dress Your Best" rule, it would have been gratifying to see how strictly they did enforce the dress "suggestions."

We only have 7 in a row on the Allure TA. (whoever said 9, there are 2 earlier, before Tenerife) I like sea days all in a row. You kind of get into a relaxed groove like being in the Outer Banks or something. You can stay up late, sleep in, wander to the pool deck for a Bloody Mary in the late morning, read, maybe take in an activity. And watch the water go by, lightning storms, sunsets, weather. I think a lot of sea days make for a great relaxing vacation. IMO.

 

On the other hand. If I lived in Tampa....I would fly to Europe and then sail BACK to Florida, to enjoy all of those sea days and be home at the end of the cruise.
