For those still looking for data points, I called Celebrity and purchased $500 of OBC on Wednesday 11/27. This morning, I see that the $150 credit posted to my Amex account dated yesterday 11/29.

Did the charge for OBC show on your credit card as just "Celebrity", or as "Celebrity Cruises"?

Interesting - my son's OBC gift purchase still appears as a pending charge but only shows as Celebrity instead of Celebrity Cruises or another variation. He made the purchase through https://www.celebritycruises.com/cruise-gifts/items-results?category=ONBDCR.

Maybe it will change to "Celebrity Cruises" once the transaction posts.  He added the AMEX offer to his account before making the purchase.  Any idea if he'll have to purchase two more $225 OBC gifts before he receives an email from AMEX letting him know that the offer has been triggered?  I realize he'll need to spend a total of $500 in order to receive the $150 cash back.

That's what mine said when it was pending. Then it posted as Celebrity Cruises Miami FL.

AMEX only sends the email when the offer has been redeemed. So a partial purchase does not trigger any email. The only case where this would not be the case is if you had an offer for a percentage off on any size purchase, up to a maximum amount. In that case you'd get email for each purchase. For example, I had an offer for 10% back at Five Guys, up to a total of $3. I redeemed it across two transactions and got emails each time.

So, if your son made the test purchase hoping to see the email and know that the offer was going to work, that won't work. But seeing the transaction post with the correct mechant name is just as important.

This is not true, in my experience. I've gotten the email immediately after purchases that haven't been enough to trigger the credit.

And what does it say? The email they send says that you have redeemed the offer and you haven't.  I've never gotten an email when I had not spent enough to earn the credit. And yes, I've done it when the amount I was paying on the last card wasn't enough for the offer and I had to add OBC (this was on HAL, but it shouldn't matter).

The email says something like Great News, You've used an Amex Offer. All the emails I get always have the caveat that you'll get the credit if your purchase meets the terms. I get these automated emails whether or not I've actually met the terms. Oftentimes I don't get any email at all, but I still get the credit after a few days. All this to say that these emails, or the lack of any emails, don't mean much to me.

Still waiting.

Added the offer to my card.

Paid $500 towards balance on a previouis;ly booked cruise.

No e-mail, no pending charge.

Will check again tomorrow then call.

If there's no pending charge then you're not going to get the email.

If you say so. I've done many AMEX deals and have never seen it work that way (although it's unusual for me to do it in more than one transaction).

So, the charge went from pending to approved over the weekend.

No confirmation e-mail. I called AMEX this morning was told they have up to 90 days to apply the credit after the offer expIration date (12/31/19) . After that date, she said they will confirm eligibilty.

I'm sure you have wisdom to offer!

I just called and purchased $500 OBC with Celebrity  for our January cruise and got the email confirming the offer from AMEX  "Great news you have just used your AMEX offer" right before the Celebrity email confirming the purchase.  The Celebrity agent did mention that the OBC won't show in my Cruise Planner or be available for use until boarding but that is okay. We will use it for gratuities and other onboard purchases.

I bought $500 Casino slot credits.  Figured it was worth it, especially with the 10% free credits.  I got the email stating I used the promotion but have not seen the credit hit my account yet.

But, with the $150 credit, $350 purchase of $550 slot credits seems like a good deal. :)

I still never received any type of email confirmation, but after a quick call with Amex they pushed my 15k points through. I would have rather had the $150 credit but as it turns out, 15k Amex points transfers to Hilton at an equivalent of right at $150 in value which I then used to partially pay for our hotel stay before the cruise.

I finally got the offer on my Amex card after - choosing almost 40 offers and refreshing until it finally showed up.
When I actually called Amex the representative could not find the offer and knew nothing about it. I had her use Bing to look it up, yes it was true but her reply was to go to Celebrity/Amex. She must have trained with most of the Celebrity It people!

Just so I understand correctly, is the offer from Amex or Celebrity?  Where do you locate the offer details?  I live in Canada and when I booked with Celebrity the agent had no idea about a Amex offer.

You need to be targeted by Amex to see the offer in your online Amex account. I don't know how widely available these offers are in Canada.
