Digital Aura #1 Posted November 22 I’m looking to find a cruise that covers as much of South America as possible around September or October 2020. Most cruises are December to March, but my 25th Anniversary is end of September and I would like to keep it close to that time. I presume the ocean conditions must be the issue ? I know that’s spring time in South America and everything I read says that’s a nice time to visit most countries there. I’m stumped. What am I missing?
crystalspin #2 Posted November 23 "as much of SA" -- if that includes going around the Horn (visiting both Peru-Chile and Argentina-Brazil, for example) by ship, that would be equivalent of sailing to the north parts of Alaska or Norway in March. This doesn't happen (so far). If you are open to escorted land tours, Gate1 has a number of them booking in Sept/late Sept. https://www.gate1travel.com/latin-america/south-america The five listed from 'Kaleidoscope of South America' down, have dates in September.
iancal #3 Posted November 23 (edited) We spent three weeks touring South Africa a few years ago. We selected November because of the weather. Not so much in CapeTown but weather and veg. for a safari in Kruger. The weather at that time in the Eastern and the Western Cape was perfect so I suspect October may be fine. My guess it that it will depend on your touring plans. We loved the country. It is back onto our bucket list. As is the continent. Essiesmom #5 Posted November 23 The ships that sail South America don't arrive there until their season in Europe is over. Check out Costa and MSC for ships sailing there in their summer. Some is also covered on World cruises. I suggest you go to www.cruisetimetables.com and do some searching using various SA ports as Departures, and as Ports of Call. The small Celebrity ships have weekly sailings in South America. Centered around the Galapagos Islands and very pricey.
