Beaches in Amber Cove

Probably not going to find a good beach at Amber Cove.  There is a public beach in Puerto Plata but it's not really a nice beach (in my opinion).  We've been to Amber Cove 3 times.  We did enjoy our ATV excursion and our catamaran excursion.

Amber Cove is on the Atlantic side of the DR, closest beach is in Puerto Plata.  It has brown coarse sand, dark gray water with moderate waves,  2* hotels, very similar to Coney Island in NY.  On my first land based vacay in the DR I made the mistake of booking a hotel in Puerto Plata - never returned there but have gone to Punta Cana with its aqua blue water and white soft sand maybe 10 times.

I had booked one of the first Horizon cruises from NY and unfortunately, AC was one of the ports.  I stayed on the ship and enjoyed serenity and the sky ride while they weren't crowded.
