I hear you, I feel you, I laughed with you,,, all cause I've been there with you.

But,,, enjoy your time with them. Mine are now gone and I'd love to be pissed off at them just one more time.

Totally understand. I lost both my parents in the last 2 years. DH and I are trying our best to laugh off their shenanigans!

1. FIL tried to get through TSA with a full bottle of suncreen and was pissed

When I first read this I thought you meant that he was really drunk (in the UK pissed means drunk) and was wondering why they even let him on the plane. I bet you're wishing they hadn't! Hang in there! Hope the rest of your vacation goes without further incident.

Current on HOS and having a great time. My DH and I are traveling with his parents (separate stateroom Thank you Baby Jesus) and our patience is running thin. My ILs take 2-3 cruises a year and should know better, but they are "Those People".

1. FIL tried to get through TSA with a full bottle of suncreen and was pissed

2. FIL got called to the Naughty Room because he had a pocket knife in his luggage. They let him keep it, but he was still pissed.

3. MIL did NOT get called to the Naughty Room for the extension cord in her bags. She was happy, but said she would be pissed if they had called her down.

4. DH has the Deluxe Beverage Package and I have the Refreshment package. ILs don't have any packages, but get free drinks in the Casino. MIL wanted DH to get his father a beer on our package. Said she and her SIL shared 1 package last cruise no problem. We told them no. They were pissed.

5. MY FIL, who has already had some skin cancer removed, refused to use my SPF 50 lotion because "they say anything above 30 is just a marketing scheme".

Thanks for listening, just need to vent to someone!

I'll read the whole thread next, but a question first:

Am I allowed to laugh?   This quite funny, a la Meet the Fockers.  I can see a great sequel in this story.........

Took my mother-in-law on a seven day star suite cruise in March. I feel your pain.

No matter the circumstance she always had an issue.

Considering the cruise was FREE for her she should have done a happy dance every minute of every day!

I hope she appreciated it in the end because it was her last cruise with us!

Yep, been there, too.  MIL was in a transport chair, and we pushed her EVERYWHERE shopping.  Most indecisive person I've ever met in my LIFE.  I explained RCCL obc to her: use it or lose it.  No way was anyone taking away free money from this incredibly cheeeeeeeeep woman!  I waited in the logo shop with her while she took THIRTY minutes to decide on which $4.95 refrigerator magnet she wanted.

Cozumel dock shopping mall?  I finally gave up after an hour, because she wanted to go back and look at ALL the stores again.

Never said a word of appreciation the whole cruise.  Never took her again.

Plus DH and I have been desperately trying to avoid anything even remotely related to politics, but FIL keeps trying to poke the bear.

Oh, that's the last straw!  I'd get a convenient case of Norovirus, and watch movies in my cabin with room service.  Geesh!

We did a full family cruise last year; a ton of drama leading up to the cruise, but thankfully very little when we were on the ship. I was surprised too, my MIL and extended family are usually nothing but drama. I think my MIL actually took people off to the side and put the fear of an angry Latina woman in them, and made every effort to spend time away from my FIL and her sister so she wouldn't end up causing a scene herself.

Planning the cruise, though. Geez, that was an ordeal. We booked and cancelled so many excursions, and one cousin kept "forgetting" to pay; honestly I'm not sure if she or her boyfriend ever paid my MIL back. And then despite being in their mid-20s, her and the boyfriend acted like  spoiled teens every time we tried to do anything as a family. The rolling eyes, heavy sigh, clearly audible mumbling under the breath.

My son's FIL took the entire family of 8 people on a Greek Island vacation, all expenses paid by him.  His son and DIL complained and pouted about the weird food the whole time.  They wanted McDonald's.

Are you aware that the noro virus room service diet is akin to hospital food🤣🤣

Your not getting wings and quesadillas 😉

I have enjoyed this, and if that makes me a not so nice person then oh well.  I agree with who ever said they wish they had parents to get upset with one more time.  We are parentless, both sets gone, but we do have a 43 yo son who feels entitled to everything he expects us to give him.  March will probably be the last cruise with him, he is already complaining about what we have and have not booked.  I can take comfort in the fact it is only one person, not 2.  I hope you end up with some happy memories of your cruise.  At least you will have some laughs over the years as you remember it.

Lol. This cruise is comped by the Casino for my ILs in a JS. They booked it for us last year to come along instead of exchanging Christmas presents. Except we are paying 100% our own way in a Balcony Room. Our Christmas budget for them is usually $200. I think we lost out on this deal.

If you are paying your own way, how is that a Christmas present???

We always said that if we ever traveled with my IL's we would end up never speaking to them again LOL. Glad you are able to vent and laugh (most of) it off!

My DS is hosting our family Christmas Eve feast and carol singing. His IL are joining us this year....five of them.

He commented that it’s impossible to stop their political discussions (arguments) so to be prepared.

I will not let them ruin our always wonderful Christmas Eve if I have to claim my matriarchal privilege and tell them to smile and shut up.

I’m glad we’re not cruising with them.

Why do people have to make themselves and everyone else miserable?

Cruises, out of all vacations choices, should be loaded with people who are happy to be there.

My mom is one of "those people"  haha.  She has this medication she takes that she allegedly cannot live without.  (it's a natural herb for digestion. not necessary... but it is to her)  It looks EXACTLY like crushed up marajuana.  She puts it in a baggie in her luggage, and tries to pass the bag off on someone else to carry it through the airport security check.  Every time she gets stopped for this, she is pissed.  And we tell her every time she is going to get stopped, yet every time she continues to be surprised, and pissed.
