National express bus stop in Portsmouth

Recommended Posts

On May 2020 I will disembark at International port in Portsmouth and thinking to take the national express bus to Gatwick airport. Is the bus stop close to the terminal? Or maybe, should I take the south western railways train from Portsmouth & Southsea?

The coach stop is just outside the terminal. There is a coach about every 2 hrs and the journey takes just over 2hrs for £10.80. Have a look at https://www.nationalexpress.com/en

Your departure is Portsmouth International Port and arrival is Gatwick Airport (you can choose South or North terminal).

Nat Express is the more convenient & cheaper option.

As Simon's post, the Nat Express stop is at the terminal (there'll be a shuttle bus from ship to terminal). The terminal is shared with the cross-channel ferries, and has refreshment facilities etc.

It's a direct service and the bus drops at both North & South terminals at Gatwick.

.If you choose the Nat Express bus, buy in advance to be assured of seats & avoid the walk-up fare.

But your ticket is only good for the bus time that you choose

The train is a direct hourly service (plus a second hourly service with one simple change of train) and journey time quicker at about 90 minutes., but you'd need a taxi ride (£10 - £12?) to the nearest station, Portsmouth & Southsea. The train station is in Gatwick's South terminal, with a shuttle to North terminal.

If you choose the train, for flexibility and value buy "advance anytime" tickets. More expensive than the "ticket valid for this service only"  but since you can't be sure when you'll be off the ship and at the rail station it gives you leeway to hop on the  most convenient train.

All this for mondays-to-saturdays only. Very limited train service on sundays & no direct trains. If you journey is on a sunday, book the Nat Express.
