New to Regent

Hello,  We are new to Regent and have a cruise booked for February 2021 on the Navigator.  It appears to be all inclusive.   However, I did get an onboard credit of about $900.   I would assume that I would use the onboard credit for extra excursions that are not included in the trip.   I know they have a casino and boutique where I should be able to use the credit.   Are there other expenses that I should plan on?

You will not be able to use your OBC in the Casino, however the overpriced boutique will be happy to help you unload it.

If you enjoy bingo, you can use your OBC to purchase bingo cards.  Any winnings can be cashed out.

On our recent Regent cruise we had roughly that amount in shipboard credits.  We used them on:  laundry and dry cleaning, excursions, a culinary class (not available on Navigator), spa treatments for my wife, daily newspaper delivered to our cabin, and a few things in the boutique.

Excursions, laundry, premium wine tastings to name a few...

When you book your excursions, you will also be offered Regent Choice Excursions for an additional fee. You can use your On Board Credit for any of those that you might prefer.  Also, as people have said, laundry, spa services, etc.  We had some OBC left over on our last cruise so my wife bought some ear rings with it in the shop.

And I bought a beautiful watch.  Plenty on which to spend on board credit, even for an all inclusive cruise.😊

Lucky you, when we booked last year, as new Regent clients we were offered no OBC and when I asked if there was anything available I was told "we don't give OBC as everything is included so you don't need it" Australia obviously does not count!! We have since booked another cruise for 2021 on Splendor (first is on Explorer in Jan/Feb  2020) and still no offer of OBC!! Continually reading on here about people getting OBC so don't know why we don't get included here in Australia 😪

Did you book directly with Regent or use a TA?

How did you get the OBC, if your TA give it---it's like cash, if you don't use you'll get cash at the end of the cruise.  But if it was part of a Regent deal (benefit) you have to use it or loss it.

Booked Explorer direct with Regent then TA took over booking, by doing this the TA was able to give us $100 each, Splendor booking was with TA as they again gave us $100 each. But nothing direct from Regent.

Yes, my OBC was through a big box TA that was running a promotion at the time.  There was nothing from the cruiseline directly. Good to know that it may be refundable.

You are absolutely correct using the term "may be".  Just because it appears to be coming only from the TA does not mean it is not a TA/Regent promo where the TA gets some or all of the OBC from Regent.  The OBC has to come 100% from a source other than Regent in order to be 100% refundable.  For instance the American Express Platinum Cruise Privileges OBC is partially or fully funded by Regent and therefore non-refundable.

 

Suggest you contact your TA and ask them if it 100% from them so that it is fully refundable.  Failing to get that information, you should have a card in your Suite when you embark with information on all of your OBC.   You can also check at the front desk and they will know if it is refundable or not.  Have a great cruise.

We have a $1425 OBC through our TA which is fully refundable.  On a recent Seabourn cruise we had over $1000 obc which was not refundable and caused us to buy a lot of stuff from the overpriced shops which we really didn't have much use for.  Refundable is the best.

No Australian based TA's give OBC. You need to book with a USA based TA to get any OBC.

I’m envious of anyone with a TA who gives a decent OBC.

OBC is nice but, a check for a percentage of the cruise fare prior to savings is even better as you can then choose how you want to spend the money and not be tempted to spend on board and wait until the end of the cruise to redeem any unspent OBC.

I second that. Plus a percentage of the cruise fare as a cheque pre cruise.

I have a Regent booking with two different OBCs listed on my booking confirmation.  One is a "Promotional Amenity" and the other is a "Group Amenity."  They both have an asterisk to this comment:  "Promotional and Group amenities, along with complimentary gifts, are non-refundable and non-transferrable."  My TA described the OBCs as coming from her consortium.  So if you are wondering about your OBC being refundable, you might want to look at your booking confirmation and see if it addresses the issue.

How does one book with an agent in the US? Thought there were country restrictions like having a local address.

It has not been a problem for us or others I know. Not sure how this all works and what restrictions are on the TA's regarding booking cruises for non US passengers but with the agent we use it has never been an issue.

One other option if you care in look into, my TA will simply hold back their OBC and send a check a couple of weeks after the end of the cruise.

Welcome to the Regent board!  Just popping in because posters on this thread seem to not be aware that things have changed.  There was a notice on Explorer earlier this month explaining how onboard credits can be used in the casino.  There are fees involved (do not recall the amount).  So, you will have that option.
