Cruise Raider Posted December 23, 2019 #76 Share Posted December 23, 2019 Whoa ... this thread sure took a nasty turn. There is really nothing wrong with voicing an opinion that a few extras for the top level cruisers is desired. There is a fat chance it will happen anyway ... so, a little dreaming about extra or different goodies shouldn't really hurt anyone else. I haven't really noticed that many people with elitist attitudes on a cruiseship ... probably happens a lot more often here on these boards, where everybody can remain anonymous, than onboard a cruise. I'm sure there are some .... I guess I just don't hang around those people very much. Of note, before upsells became the norm, I used to see first time cruisers get the best upgrades all the time. Yes .... I've been a little jealous about that!!! I did get an upgrade once from an inside to an obstructed OV cabin on Princess ... and boy, was I ever a happy camper!!

Just like the airlines, hotel and rental car programs......status starts over every year....and you can achieve lifetime status by flying 1 million miles or more.....cruise status is just too easy to achieve and even though we are elite it is really not that valuable or meaningful compared to the perks we get from the airlines, hotel and rental car programs.....The Princess OBC perks are what we find really valuable and keep us coming back.....the rest is meager for all the money you pay to cruise....a mini bar and free laundry....yawn...... It just doesn't seem right that someone can go on a 25 day (non b2b) cruise in a suite and get the same number of credits as a 1 day cruise in a suite. I totally AGREE with you. We have been feeling this way for a very LONG time. Whatever they do or don't do, loyalty perks should be based on amount of Sea Days, not cruises!

npcl Posted December 23, 2019 #82 Share Posted December 23, 2019 I do use some of the benefits. However, I do not make my cruise decisions based upon their availability. As far as I am concerned Princess should not add any more tiers. They already have the extra loyalty OBC benefit for those of us that have accumulated more cruises. Would actually like it better if they did away entirely with the tiers and just replaced the entire system with awarding OBC amounts based upon cruise days. If you do that then some people would use it for the current benefits, but having the cost broken out would reduce over consumption. There are so many Elites on some cruises (been on some where almost 50% was Elite) that you might as well not had some of the benefits.

Since both my DW and I are retired military, we both get the military perk. That is a perk that is only offered by Princess and is combinable with all other promotions and would be sadly missed if they ever decided to stop offering it. Cunard & P&O also offer the veteran benefit also. Also, HA sometimes offers price reductions for active duty but nothing for retirees or veterans. And the other nice thing for Princess is, as you mentioned, that it offers the military benefit to up to 2 people in a stateroom which they don't do for either the Loyalty credit or the Carnival Stock credit! THANKS, PRINCESS!!! Tom
Shaver John Posted December 23, 2019 #84 Share Posted December 23, 2019 I think it would be good for Princess to make another category for 500 plus days. This might include 1 welcome aboard photo, 1 free dinner at a specialty restaurant and maybe breakfast at club class if enough room. The reality is that this would not cost Princess almost anything, they have to feed you any way, and this would not adversely affect any of the other cruisers. On the Sky Princess they actually reserved 4 seats in the Princess Theater one evening for what appeared to be folks in the Sky Suite. I don't think that would be a good idea, as it affects other cruisers, but doing something nice for long term sailers would be nice. I also like the idea of the next level getting first shot at Upsales or Upgrades, that would be nice.

We got an upgrade offer from an interior to a balcony on our first cruise. I can kind of understand why they do it. It gives people who are new to the line positive associations right from the get go. That was our first cruise ever and with one exception we have stuck to Princess ever since, even though we are just "low class" platinum cruisers.
azbirdmom Posted December 23, 2019 #88 Share Posted December 23, 2019 I am happy that Princess has a loyalty program and am grateful for the benefits I get as an Elite cruiser. As others have pointed out, there is the Loyalty OBC that comes with having more than 20 cruise credits and also recognition at the most traveled luncheon / cocktail parties if your number of cruise days are the among the highest on the ship. I also know that Princess has gifted Platinum and Elite status to some newer cruisers based on their assessment of the likelihood of increased future revenue from these passengers. That doesn't bother me one bit. I am happy for what I have and am not upset because others got there by a different route. I also would not complain too much about laundry timing or lines. The tendency for corporations today is to reduce freebies and not increase them. If they get too many complaints from Elites about these benefits, they may just decide to take them away entirely because it's not worth the hassle. Be grateful you have the opportunity to cruise and enjoy the world. Peace to all.

Somehow, they skipped over us on those first time cruiser upgrades on Princess. And, we've tried all different lines. It may seem we are very loyal to Princess, but it is only because they have the itineraries we like the most with very little air travel needed. Everyone else has kind of abandoned us here on the west coast. I see that Carnival is bringing a ship into the port of SF next year. I booked on her but ended up seeing that ship in one of our ports of call recently and she just looked dirty. Maybe she wasn't but that is the impression I got when seeing her. I might try her out for a short cruise but canceled the 16 night one I had booked on her.
generichandle Posted December 23, 2019 #90 Share Posted December 23, 2019 Wow! It seems what bothers most of the people who want MORE; is not how much THEY get, but how undeserving THOSE OTHERS are. "I got my Elite with REAL sailings, not those short trips just to make THOSE PEOPLE seem as worthy as me!" "I sail in SUITES, why must I have to be treated as equal to LOWER people?" Etc I feel like I am at a political rally here.

Well, maybe I should just roll with the punches but I do have to admit that it raises my hackles to hear people looking for priority seating at shows, dining tables, entrance to MDR, returning to ship all at the expense of what we were referred to as the 'lower class people..." What do you think the word Elite means? How many Elite PAX get there by booking inside cabins on 1, 2 0r 3 day cruises out of the West Coast? It's interesting that you either missed or discounted my earlier post at number 41 on this thread.
onboard2005 Posted December 24, 2019 #98 Share Posted December 24, 2019 I don't have an issue with perks for loyalty. I do have an issue with the attitude of someone calling other people "lower class". It's a snobbish and degrading attitude and really unnecessary. That's not what these boards are for.

Ombud Posted December 24, 2019 #100 Share Posted December 24, 2019 What I find amusing is that those who would be classified as Elite+ (more than 21+ cruises) already get an extra perk in the form of loyalty OBC. Those way WAY over that top #51 get extra perks as well. (There were 3 at my wine tasting and we walked out with a full glass of our favorite) If a 'certain poster' cruised as often as she states, she'd know that. FWIW: I do NOT want my loyalty status plastered on me which is 1 reason I like the medallion. It's safely tucked away in my pocket. Only those who need to know, know. Please keep your ELITE white sign (suggestion on post #41) for those of who need external gratifi
