Nervous about sailing without a balcony. This will be my 27th cruise and weve always had a balcony. Worried about claustrophobia...

Is there a dedicated diamond lounge?

Was surprised there isnt a Chops..

Tell me the good and bad about sailing the Majesty.

We’ve had three cruises on Majesty twice in an inside stateroom and enjoyed all three.

But unfortunately no dedicated diamond lounge.

Don't know how it is now, but when she was sailing to Cuba, there was a very nice Diamond + cocktail event nightly in the Viking Crown lounge.

The well-sourced report is that the VCL event will disappear on Thursday.

I did Majesty in March 2018. I felt like there wasn’t a lot to do onboard during the day unless you were at sea, when the shops and casino were open. The pool deck was crammed to the gills and I thought it absurd to attempt getting into a pool due to crowding. I did enjoy karaoke but my traveling companion was a great entertainer in that arena. The piano guy at Schooners was very good, had a great crowd going. The ship was rocking due to high seas so dancing was...interesting. I would start on one side of Boleros and end up back and forth several times for each song.

Food in the Windjammer was always good and clean. Meals in the MDR were hit and miss but always edible. I feel like food reviews are so subjective. Service in all areas was great, except for bar service being slow because of the sheer number of orders. I found that I could more easily get drinks at the casino bar.

I had an interior cabin, as it was just 2 of us on a girls cruise and we only slept and groomed there. I never felt so cramped to the point of claustrophobia. There was enough space for my first-timer overpacking.

Getting an elevator going your direction was hard but getting on going the wrong way soon corrected itself.

I never watched the big show. Wasn’t interested in a 70s review. Hopefully they’ve changed that by now.

Nope.  Shows haven't changed.  They don't change for years and years and years and years and years......................  😉

Not even after a port change? Ugh.

I have to say that I’m very excited about my upcoming trip on Mariner. It’s the same itinerary and port but Mariner looks like it has a lot more than Majesty. But, something I should also mention to the OP, my opinion of Majesty may also be affected by the fact that Cococay wasn’t redone at that point and the tender boats weren’t able to run due to high seas so we had a sea day that felt cramped. That should be alleviated now that the island has a port.

Majesty never had a lounge. Monarch used to put on a few things on in the Viking Crown. So I will miss the hors d'oeuvres. But we will manage with drink packages. :classic_biggrin: I will let you know in February.

And you could have booked a balcony, you just have to book a junior suite. Which is about the same size as a small balcony stateroom on other ships.

My bestie and I were on Majesty back in July (Cuba turned into Costa Maya). We had a fantastic time, but it didn’t take much to keep us entertained. We steered clear of the actual pool deck, but never had a problem finding chairs one deck up, over looking the pool. Service was phenomenal, but I guess that’s pretty much the norm on the smaller ships. We didn’t do shows or casino... instead, spent most of the time in Schooners. Met some great people and the pianist/singer was very entertaining.

We did Royal Up to a Jr Suite and I’m glad we did. The cabin was probably the same size as the regular ones on newer ships and it was nice to have the balcony. And a fridge. And extra storage space.

Thanks for sharing your experience.  We have a family reunion cruise planned for June 2020 on Majesty, and I have to admit that I'm a little nervous that it won't have enough for everyone to do.  However, we needed the NOLA port, so folks could drive there, and the price was very reasonable as a group.  As long as the piano bar and karaoke are entertaining, I think most of the adults should be happy.

My immediate family doesn't spend enough time in the cabins to worry about the small accommodations, and we could not justify the added expense for a junior suite. So . . . no balcony for us.

What is the well-sourced report?  Our daughter (Diamond) will be on the ship this weekend.  BTW, does anyone know if John Denton is back on Majesty?

The good- you probably got an excellent price, you won't have to cook and clean for a week and you will (hopefully) be in nice weather and in the sun in the Bahamas or Caribbean.

The bad- This ship has been doing short cruises for years now until it moves to NOLA in 2020. Likely because the ship is old, the activities are limited, staterooms are TINY, and there are no real specialty restaurants or Diamond/Suite/Concierge lounge. You may or may not feel like you've been put in a time machine to the late 1980's or early 1990's when you enter the lounges, theaters, etc.

Would I sail on Majesty today with all of the better choices out there? Absolutely not, even if the price was right. We stopped sailing on this class ship around 10 years ago because of the tiny rooms and aged feeling. However, if I was retired with unlimited vacation time and found a great deal, I'd consider.

The piano guy was really great. He’s in the Schooner bar. Karaoke is only ever as good as the people who choose to perform. My friend who was with me is a karaoke queen (despite not being a great singer). She knows how to put on a show so it made that weekend’s karaoke great. She actually got recognized all over the boat as “karaoke girl.” I would recommend you have your family turn karaoke into a reunion competition. Pick songs and make little routines out of them.

I just looked up your cruise from NOLA. 7 nights on Majesty seems like a lot for a smaller ship but only 2 1/2 of them are spent cruising. You’ll be ok. You might consider taking card games to play if anyone does happen to get bored, just as a backup.

I'm super excited that the piano guy was great.  There are some of us who have cruised together before (different cruise line), and it is so much fun to join in and sing along.  In case you haven't tried it, ask any "piano guy" to sing Baby Got Back.  (Super hilarious!)

I suspect we have about a dozen who will have no problem getting on the karaoke stage, but I really love the idea of routines.   I know I could recruit some volunteers for that one.

I'm in the middle-generation, and several of us have already discussed having some pre-dinner family game time on board.  We plan on packing some easier-to-travel-with games, even if it is just UNO cards and a deck of regular cards.

Is there a sports bar onboard?  Or a place that shows sports games?  (I don't even know what sport is played in June.)  I know my nephews enjoy catching a game or two or three, if available.

We did Serenade in November for the first time, was a bit anxious as it was first time in an inside cabin but was pleasantly surprised that there was enough room for two of us and didn’t miss the balcony too much. As far as the ship itself, felt kind of bored but since you will be going with a big group you will have a blast. MDR and Windjammer food was good and our favorite area was the large Schooner bar, hear it’s the biggest one.

The LA received notification from corporate to end the event as of January 1st. John Denton is no longer on Majesty. He's currently on Empress and Grandeur.

I used to teach dance (ballroom, swing, Latin) so routines are my jam and I’m not shy. And who cares if you embarrass yourself? You’ll never see those sea strangers again afterward. 😂 You just need to check out the song list on night one and plan accordingly for the rest of the week.

I don’t remember a sports bar but I definitely wouldn’t pay attention to one. I can’t imagine they have a dedicated sports bar bc the ship is small but they probably have at least a couple of screens onboard.

Agree 100%... we always sail in balcony cabins so our Jan 18th Majesty cabin will be interesting. We did get one of the larger outside window staterooms to help as much as possible.  I get claustrophobic occasionally... already mapped out my path from our room to the closest deck for some fresh air if needed!!!

We wanted to try Majesty as we have not been to Key West before and departing from New Orleans means a fairly short drive of about 7 hours from Nashville.  This cruise is basically free from the credits we received from our shortened Harmony cruise back in September due to Hurricane Dorrain.

I'm guessing this will be our one and only cruise on Majesty as we really love the Oasis class ships due to more activities and better shows.

I guess we will know in a few weeks if they still have a Diamond event or not in the Viking Lounge.  Not a big deal to us as we are fine with 3 nightly drinks elsewhere on the ship.
