Mardi Gras Officially Delayed

Recommended Posts

I was just reading the fine print of the email and it indicates “the FCC is based upon the cruise  fare paid for this voyage”.

I understand our deposit will be refunded, but does this mean we would just get 25% of our deposit amount paid as a FCC or would the FCC still be based on the full cruise fare w/o fees/taxes?

The FCC is based on the base cruise rate of the cruise you were booked on that got cancelled. Whether you had paid it off or not has no bearing.😎

I just rebooked, so hopefully I can help.  Our Mardi Gras cruise rate before taxes/fees/port charges was $4156.  We had paid in $2000 so far.  We booked a new cruise.  They applied the $2000 we had already paid and also $1039, which is 25 percent of 4156.  I hope that helps!  Oh, and we also got $100 OBC each.

That is how ours was applied also, and also transferred our deposit toward new booking instead of refunding it.  I really only spent about 15 minutes on the phone with a rep. that knew what he was doing and got it all changed and new email received to confirm.  I must say I am pleased with the way our booking change was handled.  However I did it yesterday morning, before letter was received late last night, lol.  Glad I did!  The 25% FCC and $200 OBC made our new cruise on Mardi Gras very appealing and not sailing during hurricane season, lol.

Thanks to all for the info and glad many already booked replacements at a good deal!

My biggest disappointment is that there is no itinerary like the inaugural from Copenhagen on any other Carnival ship (or probably any other line)!  It was totally unique and isn't currently offered again!  ...that' why I (we) were are sad about this cancellation.

I went to price check my nov 14 sailing after all this and it isn't available anymore. Did it sell out that quick after the announcement or I wonder if they aren't selling any right now just incase they move back another week.

I checked this morning and the 3 November sailings on the 14th, 21st, and 28th were all listed with rooms available.  We are booked on the Nov 28th but won't be surprised if it is cancelled too.

Never Mind.  I just checked again and the sailing on the 14th is not listed like it was this morning. Sorry about the previous mistaken post.

Call a TA. Cruise web sites are not the place to check. A TA has everything available at there disposal.

I for one would not rebook on any of the November sailings that remain as another even small glitch or delay and these sailings will be history. Especially if air fare was involved.😎

What was the itinerary? I know I did a TA in 2018 on Royal that left from Copenhagen, which included Iceland, Greenland, and other ports, ending in Boston. You might be surprised how many other cruise lines do these itineraries yearly. If it’s itinerary you want, you just have to look around.

I know it is very disappointing though. I have had a TP that ended in my home port  (which is rare), cancelled, and I was also disappointed. I have another TP that ends in Seattle booked in 2021. Fingers crossed!

Thank you CRZNDEB! Between the time I posted that comment and now, we were able to find an itinerary  that was similar and we will probably put a deposit down on it. The original itinerary included Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, France, England, and Germany - a really great itinerary for a 9 night cruise...nothing matches it, but at least we'll get most of those countries in.

Not had much luck finding a cruise to book to replace the one we just lost with Carnival - a transatlantic crossing from my home country, on a brand new ship, ending up in New York City, via places we actually wanted to stop at en route.

Thanks again Carnival. Sorry, forgot, thanks a lot Turku Meyer. I forgot for a moment it’s all their fault.

Since you haven’t posted much on Cruise Critic, did you see at the top of the page, “Find a Cruise”? I happened to look for TA’s leaving from Southhampton, and I found a lot next year, and on different cruise lines, since you stated you wouldn’t be sailing Carnival for a while. Maybe not brand new ships, but some great itineraries. Seems like you are stuck in disappointment mode. Hopefully the holidays will bring you out of your funk.

We got hit with a double whammy, had the NE/ reposition cruise booked back to back. Now it’s time to search for replacement cruises. It’s hard because these two cruises were special and everything available we have been there done that. A note, Carnival is having its 50th anniversary and are going to unveil some special cruises next month.  So far nothing has been leaked. One positive for us is with the credit, we can get a good deal on two other cruises and then we can do my wish list cruise on Princess to Alaska and Japan, 35 days in 2021. Good luck everyone in finding your new cruises.

I appreciate you taking the time to look, and for posting here. I genuinely appreciate it. If you have read my posts on this thread, you will have read about the trying circumstances that my wife’s sister finds herself in. My wife and I have done a few Celebrity cruises, loved them, so we looked briefly at what the Reflection / Apex were doing in regard to transatlantic. Several problems immediately flagged up. Cost - they are good, but not cheap, and my sister-in-law has a budget she simply cannot exceed. We had booked the Mardi Gras crossing so far in advance. We got a good deal, and, we got adjoining cabins. My wife and I in a suite class we wanted, the very next room was a class my sister-in-law wanted, and could afford. It was perfect.

The Celebrity transatlantic cruises now obviously have seen the best cabins, for location and price, already snapped up.

As I explained, my sister-in-law’s long term partner was admitted to a cancer hospice a week or so ago, and has been given two weeks to live. When we booked the Mardi Gras, we knew his long term prospects were bleak, but we weren’t prepared for this deterioration, and bombshell just before Christmas. Then, a few days later, we get the Carnival Mardi Gras news.

As things stand, we are putting all thoughts of a replacement holiday to the back burner. We have had a few days since the cancellation news, where my wife and I briefly researched possible new cruises, but none of us have the heart for it. A new cruise, new flights, new hotels, new bookings. We are now just going to forget about it and get through Christmas, New Year, and whatever that holds for us in regards to my sister-in-law and her partner. Whatever it holds, it isn’t going to be good.

Having cruised on, and loved, both the Celebrity Reflection and Solstice, next year, sometime, when our heads are clearer, we will look into cruises on the Edge or Apex. Our intention remains that we are sadly finished with Carnival. We are gold members, but as I said in a previous post, they are a multi-billion dollar company where gold members are ten-a-penny. We won’t be missed.

Will make this my last post on the matter. Hope everyone has a good festive season.

We were booked on the cancelled Oct 31st 2020 Mardi Gras cruise, called and rebooked for Feb 6th 2021 (Super Bowl cruise) we received 25% off $100 per person OBC and $50 fun play since it was a casino rate. Needless to say my husband is a happy camper, he gets to be on the ship during the super bowl festivities and he saved some money too. I love cruising during Halloween, so I'm just a tad bit disappointed.  Total savings for us was $612.00 Also keeping our fingers cross that there is not another delay.😁

Right!? I even thought while booking "Glad my B-day is in Nov. so there will be time to workout any kinks."

I'm still fairly new to cruising, so I guess i'm still learning. lol

Are you going to try and book another Mardi Gras cruise, or something else?

Haven't figured it out yet.  I am a November B'day too.  If we book for December, the price is still more than we previously had, even with the discount.  Might look at Europe of Alaska.  Choices, choices.

I just got notice from Carnival that the Mardi Gras is officially delayed and they have cancelled all sailings prior to the November 14, 2020 sailing out of Port Canaveral.  I was scheduled to sail the maiden voyage out of Copenhagen so they canceled that one, the trans-Atlantic sailing and the sailings out of NY.  This sucks.

I've attached the noticed sent to me by Carnival, and have confirmed on the website that my booking is gone.

I figured so and did a quick search of the forums but didn't see anything about it.  So looks like I was one of the people they referenced in the notice that didn't get the notification until today.  Ugh.

I got the letter dated the 20th but never got a refund. I called today and the rep tried to get me to transfer the deposit to another cruise but I said no just refund it which she said she initiated. I thought the refund would’ve been issued at the time they canceled and wonder how long they would’ve held on to my deposit if I didn’t call?

You had a choice for the refund or FCC. I ended up using both. Already received the refund balance not used as FCC. My TA did all the paper work with changing a cruise and adding another and the refund was received in two days from that day.

The letter I got said I would get both the refund and the 25% FCC. The way the letter was phrased I thought the refund would be automatic but it wasn’t which I think isn’t right.
