Paying for BSE add on

When I call to add BSE to my cruise I already have booked do I pay now or is it added to my total cruise cost at final payment. I have a February 2021 cruise booked under 3 for free and am going to add drinks and WiFi for $25/person/day.

In your case it goes toward the cruise total because your cruise is a long way out yet and your before final.

In the UK don't expect to get it without cancelling and making a new booking, losing any benefits or price reduction already obtained (course the UK can only get one reduction for the cruise unlike N America where you can ask for as many reductions as seen on the web).  When it came out, I tried to apply it to an existing booking saying I had seen it was applicable to the UK on existing bookings and was told that each country had different "rules" and that as such it was cancel (and pay the fee) or not bother to ask.

 

It would be so easy for Princess to have the same "rules" in every country but apparently that is beyond them.

i added the BSE to my existing booking for June 2020 without any issues or the need to rebook just added to final payment

Not sure why however they required me to pay 10% of the added cost up front as an additional deposit.  The rest was added to the balance.

 

It was not enough money for me to make an argument about it after spending over an hour on the phone to add the BSE.

I added BSE to our booking, paid in full as we were past final payment. We are from the UK.

I think Princess have changed the rules to allow UK passengers to add this to their bookings without having to cancel and rebook. I paid £35 pppn which is not bad value for Drinks, tips and internet.

When you do a BSE add-on, the cost of that add on is added to your cruise fare total and not treated as an additional purchase like paying grats in advance or buying PBP through the Personalizer.  Thus your cruise fare increases by the costs of the add-ons.  If you were booked without a reduced deposit promotion and had to put a 10% deposit down, then since your fare went up by a certain amount, the total 10%deposit due also increased.  I hope this answers LB_NJ's question.  (If you used a TA, the TA also gets an increased commission too.)

My original cruise WAS booked with a reduced deposit.  They still added the 10%.

if you have Princess insurance, that could increase also as it is based on cruise fare

Any travel insurance may increase because all travel insurance is based on trip cost, however some insurance goes in $500 or $1000 bands so if the increase does not put you in a new band you may be OK.

My travel insurance only requires I pay an increase when I actually remit more money to Princess.  So far, I'm only insuring $200.

Interesting - I was speaking with one of the Princess Cruise Specialists who said can't do it.  Going to send this link to them to see that some people have been able to get without cancelling and rebooking.

 

Also noted above that someone mentioned the Princess Insurance which is not available in UK.  Used it when I lived in Canada and expected to be able to continue with it over  here but similar response to above - different countries have different rules so no insurance (or BSE) according to the specialists initially spoke to.

 

I'll try again tomorrow to see if I can get my regular contact (due back tomorrow after Christmas) to see if she can make it happen - she is the one that said you can only apply one reduction when you see a price drop so I am not convinced it will happen.

I have to snicker at the "Princess Cruise Specialist" part.

Most have never been on a ship let alone a Princess cruise.

Thats a good idea to call back. With the confirmation of another UK cruiser in this thread who was able to do it.

Maybe 2 or 3 times would be a charm?

Last cruise specialist had been on Princess cruises and he was good, but jumped ship to Hilton so much missed (by me) - having said that I will try again.

just a note on my adding BSE to a cruise booked in uk

i had prepaid gratitudes and internet and had to cancel them first as it seemed the system wouldn’t allow BSE to be added if any of the items included were already paid. 

also check your cruise is running the promotion .

this promotion CAN be added to a existing booking just insist!
