Worst carnival cabin experience

Thanks it is our first time to try Carnival!  We don’t cruise much. We have done two Disney Cruises and a Royal.

re question, have you ever stayed on deck one?  yes , twice, once as mentioned earlier on the Liberty. Great room, just noisy neighbors in a connecting room, lesson learned;  deck one is fine, just don't book a room with a connecting door to another.

 

Other time, I forget which ship offhand, but it was deck one forward porthole room (Im thinking Victory in 2015).  Again a great room, once you get used to the sort or noises you will hear there, like waves on the hull of the ship, and early morning docking in ports, rumbling and vibrating, but really was a great room, large, roomy.  I have had these rooms before and always try to get them as a solo cruiser, so I knew about the noise issue.  Did not hear the waves crashing but maybe one , max two nights,  I guess might have to do with how fast the ship is going and the seas.  I would not hesitate to book a room on the lowest deck.  

 

Another good thing about that location is that when you reboard the ship in ports or call, you are very close to your room, only one deck up from where you come in.

Victory right above the casino was the loudest room I've ever had. We thought the people next door slept with the TV on to the music channel at first but what we heard was music all freaking night. That was the first and last time I ever did a PVP picked room, believe we paid an extra 100 each too! 

 

The worst room though was Sunshine 1st floor inside all the way aft. It was great for darkness and being quiet but the room never got below 78 degrees and there were two hidden portions of the floor missing just outside the bathroom and immediately inside the door that caused DH and I to both twist our ankles 3-4 times each on a 7 day cruise. 

 

We went 20 years without as much as a hiccup with our rooms, then went on a 2 year stretch of something always being wrong with it, regarding noise or a/c. Haven't had the issue for a couple years so hopefully it's behind us.

 

I must say, never had a bad cabin on Royal or Princess. Cruised them about half as much as carnival but still a lot. We frequently do inside cabins on the first or second floor for sleep purposes no matter what line we're on. Excited to try another Carnival Suite though.

Our only bad room was on Royal on Liberty of the seas. We had an aft corner wrap balcony which was amazing until we realized we had no hot water during our 7 day cruise. We called every day and they tried to fix it but we never got hot water. We got $200 toward a future cruise that expired within 12 months but we couldn’t use it because we have 3 kids and didn’t have a good time we could go the following year. We thought it was lousy compensation. We haven’t been back on Royal since.

that would sour me too, not nearly enough compensation and too many strings attached. Reminds me of a story I'll never forget about our first family royal cruise. We all wanted showers before muster. Hubby turns on the water and it was freezing cold despite being all the way hot. We knew it wasn't going to get fixed before muster so we all took the coldest showers of our lives then reported it.

 

After dinner, maintenance arrived and quickly left without saying anything. The guy came back with a couple bottles of wine and champagne and cookies for the kids. Barely keeping a straight face, he apologized profusely because the knobs were installed incorrectly and the hot water was on the cold water side of the dial!

 

We all laughed so hard and we still laugh about it to this day.

thats hilarious. We actually have had that problem enough times we try the cold tap too if we haven’t gotten any hot water.

Freedom 8348.  Art storage room across hall.  Staff moves art beginning at 4:00 am.  Out of 7 days our alarm woke us twice and the art staff the other 5 days.  Beware of this cabin!!!!!

My bad cabin story; Carnival Dream, balcony cabin.  We get to the cabin and it is very warm. We also noticed the refrigerator was not working; called our stateroom steward, who was fantastic about the situation.  He called his supervisor and got a new refrigerator from a room not occupied.  Now comes the nightmare and anger.  The supervisor arrives with an electronic thermometer.  My wife and I are sweating, the cabin steward has also worked up a good lather and the supervisor proceeds to tell us about Carnival's specifications for cabin temperatures.  She took 20 minutes to do this (no lying, we timed the speech).  I asked her to take the room temperature and it 81 degrees.  She said "Oh" (that is a quote) and said she would get the technicians.  By Wednesday they had it fixed.  The two drawers under the sofa were also broken but usable.  Had the supervisor just taken the room temperature instead of lecturing, I would have been more understanding as things sometimes happen. 

 

What I don't understand is how the cabin could get to a broke refrigerator and two broken draws without the staff noticing.  Regarding the drawers, we were not talking about small breaks.  the only way not to notice was not to inspect.

 

We still had a good cruise and are on the Glory in May.

Someone also warned of "late night trivia contests" in the Lobby. I play a lot of trivia on our cruises. Regular trivia runs mostly during the day, sometimes with a later one starting at 5pm, but most trivia only lasts half an hour. This is what we had an issue with on our last cruise on the Sunrise.  We had a OV room on Deck 2...not too far off of the atrium elevators.   Music trivia party with the cruise director was done by 10 or 1030 each night. However, on the last night, it went way past 11 pm and with the early off, it sucked trying to get some sleep. We also heard the violin quartet every afternoon and evening which wasn't as loud but was annoying at times if you wanted to nap.   I did point it out on the cruise survey, but we moved down to Deck 1 OV mid ship for our next cruise pretty far off the elevator atrium area to avoid that noise.

Paradise Empress Deck, E65.   You could hear the atrium music and activities all hours of the night.  It was a guarantee, last minute cruise.    It was just before Paradise dry dock and there was hammering and drilling in the cabin below us at all hours.  Guest Services did investigate and gave us a sizeable OBC for the trouble, but the noise never stopped...    One lesson learned - I won't do a guarantee again.
