Lots of Divina questions

I am not sure if anyone knows the answer to this but we are travelling with our teen. Does every cruise card have to be linked to a credit card? We would prefer that our teen's card not be linked to our credit card. We would rather give her a prepaid card with a limit (we read about them) for onboard expenses like gelato and other such things..

What happened to the Sports Bar on Divina? It used to have great free food

The Sports Bar is still there. I went in there a couple of times trying to see if I could get any info on some games...but there was no mention of food available in the Sports Bar in the daily program and I didn't notice food when I was there.

I was curious about your question. I did find the FAQ which mentions the prepaid card (you do understand that any money still on the card at the end of the cruise is non-refundable?) but there are no other specifics mentioned regarding underage travelers...but the way that they talk about it, even on the website, it would seem that an underage's normal sea pass card doesn't have charging privileges and that they would need to have a prepaid card in order to be able to buy anything themselves on the ship. If that is actually the case, then I would say that you don't even have the option to link a credit card to an underage traveler. This would be worth a phone call IMO, if you really wanted to know. I had a great experience calling in...my call picked up within 5 minutes.

Sorry to hear that the casino is now smoking. It was all non smoking in 2017 and it was awesome. What happened to the Sports Bar on Divina? It used to have great free food

I'm bummed about that too.  One of the reasons that Celebrity is my favorite cruise line is because of their non-smoking casinos.

This thread has been so helpful!  Let's keep the questions going. 🙂

How are the beds?  We were on a weekender cruise on Costa once and I felt like I was sleeping on a wooden plank.  I hope that's not an Italian cruise line thing.

I did not know that about Celebrity. I may have to check them out. I like to gamble and I'm not used to smelling smoke in a casino.

We like to play Blackjack.  Do you remember what the table limits were on your cruise?  Did they have $5 or $10 tables?

We were on Divina in 2017 and I think they had $5 tables but I can't remember 100%. I didn't play much blackjack and it's been almost 3 years. My memory isn't what it used to be! Sorry lol

The beds were fine. My concern is usually that the beds may be too soft, especially a spring bed. I sleep on memory foam at home and so I generally have disappointments with travel beds. The bed seemed to be supportive enough without being too stiff so I was happy. The pillows...meh. There are two...one is flat and hard, the other has more volume and more give. I'm seriously pillow challenged and have yet to find what I think of as a great pillow for my home bed...but I appreciated the two pillows and found that each night I might prefer one over the other and switched it up. I didn't experience some of the pillow horror stories I've seen here or elsewhere. All in all, I'd say the whole bedding situation was decent. I would book the stateroom I had again.

I've heard that they charge for water in the dining rooms on MSC.  Does anyone know if this is true?  I'm talking about regular tap water not bottled water.  Thanks for any coarification in this.

No charge for regular water in the dining rooms on Divina.

That's true on sailings out of US ports.  In Europe they don't serve "regular tap" water and they sell bottled water.  Out of US ports many Europeans on board opt to buy bottled.

Here's a question that I can't seem to get a straight answer from MSC.  Am on the 28 Feb 2020 sailing of Divina, which has an 11-day southern Caribbean itinerary.  According to the timetable on the MSC website, we arrive Willemstad, Curaco Day 4 at 09:00 and depart 11:59.  Day 5 of the itinerary has arrivial Willemstad, Curaco at 00:01 and departure at 18:00.  Now I'm assuming that the ship will spend the night in Curacao port, but I'd like to get a definite confirmation of that.  MSC customer service is pretty sure that that is the case.  So I'm putting the question to my knowledgeable friends at Cruise Critic, does Divina definitely spend the night in Curacao on the 11-day southern Caribbean cruises?  Thanks.

Just a few comments...I was on the Jan 12-17th cruise also. There was discussion on Facebook regarding the soft serve ice cream and it was confirmed that it was not free by someone who was on the cruise at the time. There is a machine at the bar on the pool deck but when I asked, they said it was $5. The cups are $3 (or 3.50) and $5.50, you can also get a waffle cone of gelato for app $6.50 after the service charge.

There is food that is free in the Sports Bar, but only during certain times and they may not have something in stock. For example, I was ordering a warm brownie with ice cream and it wasn't available due to it not being delivered from the galley. A lot of folks were ordering the chicken wings (4) and the burgers. If you get the wings, you can ask for an order for fries also (they are not listed on the menu). You can also order as many of the dishes as you want.

Casino - blackjack tables were $5 (auto-shuffle) and $10 (manual shuffle), there was also a Dream 21 table. Smoking was only allowed on the slot machine side, not near the tables.

Disembarkation - I did the express walk off. You have to be able to take your own bags, but can get off as soon as they open it up. I was off the boat by 7:15, at the Miami car rental place at the airport and leaving by 8:00am.

Anita is right on point with her review and has a lot of great details. Don't remember if it was mentioned, but you can also buy a wrist band for $5 which enables you to leave your card in your room. You just need your card to get on/off the ship and if you want to charge money to your room in the casino. The benefit of leaving your card in the room is to charge your phone, tablet, etc. while you're gone. The rooms have a card slot that turns on the electricity, if you take the card out everything eventually turns off.

I was on the 1/12 sailing too. I had the same experience with regard to the soft serve. I asked if there was anyplace on board where the ice cream was free and was told no, except for the desserts in the MDR, of course.

I visited the adult pool on the one port day and it was practically empty. Very nice and quiet. On sea days it was quite popular, even the absolute aft side where the tile surround is slanted and people were laid out on beach towels there.

I was curious to try the water slide and especially the F1 simulator, but they were only open for very specific hours each day, and I never managed to get there at the right time. The hours were even more limited on port days.

This is a great ship if you like dancing. There were lots of free ballroom classes, and the cruise director staff was very active in the lounge/club areas to get things going at night.

Our steward casually clued us into a great way to deal with the light situation. There's a notification card/sign type thing in the room that is intended to be left in the key slot of the outside "lock" of the door. It's like a little sign above the "key" and one side reads "please make up the room" and the other side reads "do not disturb". You can put that card in the slot in the room that controls the lights. I think this is what the room stewards do when they service the rooms and our steward left that notification tilted (so not inserted into) and right above the interior key slot that controls the lighting in the room. After the room would be serviced in the evening, we would generally leave that card in the interior slot so that we didn't come back to a dark room and also so the air would run so that it would be cooler for sleeping. It's a handy dandy trick to work the lighting/power situation in the room.

Yes. Any card...or anything that will fit down the key card slot will work. If you have a pre-cruise hotel stay, that key card will work too. I just wanted to share that there is something in the room that will work. I had thought about bringing a card for this purpose but didn't remember so...I was really happy to learn there is something already in the room that works.

I'm sorry I didn't note down the prices in the fun zone, which were on a plaque on the wall. The F1 was priced per ride, as was the 4D theater, and there was a weekly pass for the Virtual World (not sure what  other items that might have encompassed).

Opening times were listed as 9a-1p, 4p-8p, and 9p-midnight.
