Voyager out of Singapore, May 2020

My husband and I are booked on Voyager out of Singapore on a 5 night cruise.  We're not new to cruising, but this will be our first non US departure.   What should we expect onboard as far as languages spoken, culture, etc?  Will the announcements be in multiple languages?

Thanks  for anyone's input - we're excited to see a bit of Asia.

Our last cruise was Singapore to Hong Kong.

There was a large contingent of German passengers, so all announcements were in both English and German.

I actually expected English and Chinese, so found it pleasing that they look at their passenger manifest and adjust accordingly.

As pretty much all Singaporeans speak English, unless they have a large number of passengers from some non English speaking country, you will probably just get announcements in English.

As for culture, again, Singapore is one of the most "Westernised" Asian countries, so I wouldn't stress about that. Singaporean people are generally very pleasant, friendly and exhibit good manners.

If you can spend time in Singapore at either end of your cruise, you will not be disappointed... there is plenty to see and do.

Agree with Balsam12.  Hope you are planning a few days in Singapore before or after your cruise.

English will be the primary language...and I would guess there will be many passengers from Australia or the U.K...along with Americans.

There are so many things to see in Singapore...as "tiny" as it is...heck, even the airport now has the tallest indoor waterfall.  "Gardens by the Bay" is a short distance from the cruise terminal.  Taxis are cheap and the MRT is easy to use and can just about get you anywhere.  I'm sure you've heard that Singapore is perhaps one of the cleanest countries in the world.

And we love the Voyager...great crew and wonderful service.  Happy Sailing!

We sailed this itinerary at Christmas.  It’s a great cruise terminal very easy to use.  The immigration time to get embark/disembark should go smoothly but may take some time depending on how many “foreigners” there are.   Singapore has automated immigration for citizens, permenent residents and workers with “green cards”.

Everything will be in English and most of the crew will speak some level of English as well.  I found a singapore forum that has a great thread on Voyager and Quantum sailings out of Singapore.

I know I can’t link to it but I believe I can recommend a search “singapore quantum of the seas hardware” and you should be able to find it.

Thank you all!  The email I received from RCCL about the cruise being a "culturally enriching experience" made me a little concerned, but you have greatly reassured me.  I expect the cruise to reflect the local customs, flavors, etc., but having reassurance that at least some English will be spoken helps.

We are planning on spending a few days in Singapore before/after the cruise.  A friend of ours suggested  Singapore as a great "baby step" into our travels to Asia since they are fairly westernized.

Thanks again - I may be back with more questions.  T-111 until we sail!
