Ocean Medallion Problems in Casino

We just had our first Ocean Medallion experience and while overall, it was good, we didn’t like having the heavy medallion around our neck... wristband definitely worked better.  A few issues encountered at the casino.... if you put cash in the machine, you must scan your medallion first otherwise when you cash out, it won’t put the cash on your card, but will instead put it on the card of the person sitting closest to you.  Also, even when playing with your medallion, we experienced an issue where the machine said processing and showed that we had cashed out, but our bank balance was zero so watch your casino account closely!  Seems there are a few glitches!

How does that work? :classic_unsure:

Basically, when you sit down, you must first scan your medallion before you insert any physical cash ($20 bill, etc) into the slot machine.  If you insert any physical bills without scanning your medallion, if you decide to cash out any winnings, it will likely go to the medallion closest to the slot machine which might not be yours.  It happened to us... when someone else’s $$$ was deposited into our ship bank account.

I am just off the Royal. They had an OCEAN Medallion IT crew all over the ship. I spoke with one who had planted himself on a stairway. He stated basically that they were still making adjustments to the "resolution" or "granularity" of the sensors. He said he was on a 3 month contract working the Medallion system tune ups.

I also had a bartender at the pool explain the troubles they were having. He kept asking to scan my Medallion to pay for drinks. Which is fine. I asked him why he needed to do that, and he showed me the Medallion viewer (the black tablet). Basically, there were 3 people plus myself at that bar, and as far as the Medallion system was concerned there were more than 20. He said the three sensors above my side of the bar will pick up people who walk by, people on the other side of the deck, and sometimes people on the deck above.

Given the casino has many, many more sensors than the pool deck bar does, it is no trouble at all believing there are problems with the various devices picking up the correct Medallion for the current transaction.

It's sad because, naturally, Princess advertises the whole affair being seamless. It isn't.

Yes, I've used the medallion in the casino so I'm familiar with how it works.  What I'm questioning is the statement "it won’t put the cash on your card, but will instead put it on the card of the person sitting closest to you."  Not "it might", rather "it will."  Quite odd for winnings to automatically go to the person sitting next to you.

Snarkiness aside, I recall you need to place your medallion on the reader for the machine to "recognize" you.  More than likely what happened with the OP is the person playing previously had $0.00 balance on the machine so didn't need to cash out when they left.  The OP started playing the machine before the previous user's login expired (and without scanning their own medallion in) so the machine thought the previous player was still playing so when cashing out the winnings went to the previous player's account.
