Rare Vampiress88 Posted February 5, 2020 #1 Ā Share Posted February 5, 2020 Couple of comments on threads over the last week or two especially about class levels on p&o it got me wondering about what everyone does for a livingĀ Ā so me Iām a part time worker- part time mum I suppose.Ā I am probablyĀ bottom in class š¤ maybe middle- is it the amount you earn that determines this?Ā Ā I work in a call centre. Iām a sales advisor and I work for a very big well known company. Have been there 11 years now. Iāve done many things in there, sales, pilotingĀ new systems, working for a different company under our company umbrella, complaints, fixing system issues and since having the kids back to sales.Ā my husband worked for a big British industry for 12 years as an electrical engineer. He is now with a big name brand company, one that everyone one knows the name of but always gets what they actually do completely wrong. He is a maintenance engineer now mainly working with robots.Ā Ā I know certain people rave about the newspapers they read etc but we donāt watch the news, we donāt even have live tv, we read bits on the internet and what pops up on social media but nothing else.Ā Ā thereās so many assumptions in life about our jobs, hobbies, the books we read, the films we watch etc but I donāt think all these things compute into what we wear or how we have a dinner conversation while we are on a cruise. My husband owns three timeās more trainers than I have shoes but we still try and dress as we should while on board.Ā Ā But it would be very boring if we were all the same!Ā

peteukmcr Posted February 6, 2020 #9 Ā Share Posted February 6, 2020 (edited) I wasĀ an IT professional for 34 years travelling extensively worldwide and gaining a vast experience of the intricacies of business travel. Left the so called āsecureā employment world of IT after experiencingĀ myĀ 3rd period of redundancy,Ā changingĀ career and trainingĀ as a business travel consultant. I nowĀ work for a big name global business travel agency booking travel for others! Salary has been halved but we have cut our cloth accordingly as work life balance is more important than earning a large salary andĀ working all hours, 7 days a week.Ā Edited February 6, 2020 by peteukmcr

Josy1953 Posted February 6, 2020 #11 Ā Share Posted February 6, 2020 Why worry about other passengers work at ?Ā There are so many different people cruisingĀ that the diversity of work is endless.Ā My OH was an engineer and I travelled the world working on various projects for a large multi-national company.Ā We are both happy to be retired and enjoying spending our time together becauseĀ we feel that when were younger family and work pressures meant that we didn't spend enough "just us" time. Ā We have met some truly interesting people on ships from a retired vicar who was so funny that he could have been a professional comedian to a cargo ship captain whose wife told us that he had to go on cruises to make up to her for being away at sea for months on end. Roger88 Posted February 24, 2020 #23 Ā Share Posted February 24, 2020 I would say that as long as you enjoy yourself and your self of being (so to say) you should be fine and yo shouldnt care much about what other people do for living and how much they earn. The older I become the more I realize that Id rather do something I enjoy doing no matter how much I earn. Its all good as long as my state of mind is feeling alright.Ā
