Cruise in 10 months, booked 2 months ago - what coverage?

Recommended Posts

I booked our cruise in December 2019. The cruise does not sail until January 2021, nearly 13 months after booking. I paid a small deposit, and my cruise fare is Refundable. However, soon after booking our adult daughter became very ill. Now she seems better but we are still determining what level of care we need to provide. We are in our 70s and usually get good medical insurance, including evac coverage and the usual trip interruption insurance. We usually get insurance soon after booking but did not this time since we were not sure we would even take the cruise. Now, about 11 months before sailing, we are reasonably sure we will be able to take our cruise. However, my concern is what coverage we will be able to get since it's long after the typical 2-3 weeks to cover "pre-existing" and "Cancel for any reason" insurance.

Can you please give me a link to help me decide what insurance I can get at this point? Seems like I could just cancel my trip and re-book another and then qualify for the "within 2-3 weeks of booking" choices. Guidance is appreciated! Thanks!

Doug

Nationwide has a family of cruise policies, some (or all?) of which offer pre-existing conditions waiver if purchased on or before the day your final payment is made.  They should come up when you search at insuremytrip.com.  We have purchased these policies for our last few cruises and have made claims (pre-departure itinerary change, missed port, and medical claims) which were handled cheerfully and efficiently with prompt payments.  I highly recommend them for cruise insurance policies.
