Drinal01 Posted February 20, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2020 We have the Stingray city excursion in Grand Cayman and debating if a GoPro is worth it. I don't know how much I would use it other than this one time. The phone is so easy and always there. Anyone buy a GoPro to use occasionaly or 1x and find out they use it alot more? Mr. Click Posted February 20, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2020 I bought one with a pile of OBC last year. Really have not used it much. First you have to remember you have it and take it out of the bag.....
bigrednole Posted February 20, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2020 If you don't want the expense of a GoPro, the $75 alienating on the smile site will be far better for underwater than a phone. They aren't that bad either.
mskaufman Posted February 21, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2020 I use it on a destination cruise, especially in a place where a photo will not do the location justice. For a one time experience it is not worth it (although you can probably rent one).
iMarco46 Posted February 21, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2020 It's possible to use a smartphone in the water, especially at a location as shallow as Stingray City. Loksak is one option.https://loksak.myshopify.com/
bbwex Posted February 22, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2020 I wanted a similar camera but felt that the price of the Go Pro was a bit high. Instead I purchased an Intova camera, used it underwater and to make a video of some zip lining. Felt that it did a great job.

One should be mindful that GoPro operator interfaces are somewhat complex - numerous touchscreen menus, submenus and settings: So unless you're willing to invest in learning/practicing with a camera that doesn't work like phone cameras or conventional point/shoot and more sophisticated gear, it might be best to skip the GoPro. Loved Grand Cayman - water is clear as gin. Stingray City... suffice to say you will not be alone... the water is roughly waist-deep and typically a half-dozen boatloads of tourists visiting simultaneously.
