How smokey are the royal Caribbean casinos?

This is very true. One afternoon on the Liberty, somebody rolled an old man in a wheel chair into an aisle next to a machine we were playing, and he just sat there and smoked! He was not alone in just smoking, but not playing, and yes, it did chase us out too!

Well I'm glad I'm not that into gambling.  If I bring a CBD joint on there and smoke it in the casino wonder if they would have an issue lol.

Anthem has not yet sailed from the UK but other ships have had this - we won't know for sure until her first sailing after dry dock. Maybe @little britain can confirm.

No smoking in the casino on RCI ships on UK sailings

The smokers bus shelter is deck 5 aft starboard side

This is an exert of a review I wrote about our recent Majesty of the Seas cruise:

"The casino was way too smoky for us.  We like to play video poker and would have played at the bar machines.  These machines were in the no smoking area but smoke was awful, everywhere, spilling out into the nearby Schooner Bar and Centrum area.  If only 15% of the population still smoke and educated people that have good jobs and therefore can afford cruises smoke even less than the general population, why is smoking allowed in RCCL casinos.  Does not management see that many of the smokers do not even pretend to gamble, they are just there to smoke indoors.  There is no smoking in the casino on the Empress of the Seas and there should not be a smoking casino on Majesty of the Seas. "

All this said, my DH and I are gamblers and as Texans seldom pass up on an opportunity to gamble anywhere.  We played at the non-smoking casinos in Baton Rouge and New Orleans on the way to this cruise.  We gamble almost everyday on Celebrity Cruises in spite of the bad odds because the casinos are non smoking.  On this Majesty cruise, we barely made it through the CC slot pull at 10:30 am.  We played maybe 15 minutes on another day to cash in some Diamond plus free play.  It does make me mad that a guy sitting in the corner reading a book on his tablet while filling the casino with smoke is taking my opportunity to enjoy the casino away.

OK, I already feel bad about posting the part about smokers being less educated etc.  I was a two plus pack a day smoker for years and was lucky to be able to give the habit up.  I know not everyone can quit.  I guit for my health and the health of those around me.  I wish RCCL would help out with non-smoking casinos.  That is my point.

Somehow Celebrity casinos survive being non-smoking.  It's just a matter of time before Royal goes non-smoking.  Maybe Bayley is or was a smoker so he continues to allows it on Royal ships.

I hope you are right. Was on Equinox last month and smoke free was wonderful. Is the clientele that much different on Celebrity. I know Royal has many many more kids, but they are not doing the smoking and gambling.......at least I think they are not.😜

We deliberately leave Royal’s casino if the smoke gets bothersome. I think the biggest part of the problem is many people use the casino as a smoking lounge, since there are fewer smoking areas  available. I see a lot of non-gambling smokers congregated around the ashtrays.

Horrible...which is why I am never in there. Whenever I have had to walk through the casino I end up with a sore throat.

The anthem has a large casino and you should be just fine.  The smoke is more noticeable on smaller ships like the grandeur.

It is pretty horrible, and one of the biggest reasons we don't play on board.  There is definitely a lot of non gamblers smoking in there.  You don't even have to be in the casino to smell it.  You know if you are near the casino by the smell.  I wish they would change their policy as well

I will say not as bad in my experience as most casinos in Vegas (we usually stay at the Cosmopolitan and just getting in and out of the hotel through the casino feels as if I am running a gauntlet).

I have no issues standIng with a smoker or passing through the outdoor smoking areas onboard, but the RCL Casinos are typically pretty doggone smoky. I wish they offered sections that were non-smoking but it is what it is.

We were on the Symphony in November and as non smokers we felt it was very bad. We are not big gamblers but usually play everyday, not this time. So the upside is we didn't lose any money as we walked thru once and it was too much.

I wrote a long letter to Royal about smoking in the casino. I've placed some of it below. The response from Royal was a canned letter that was worth abut the price of the paper it was written on...  They really do not care.

This letter is to let you know of our displeasure with your Casino Royale smoking policy.
Smoking is limited to a very few areas onboard your ships. Casino Royale allows smoking. You usually set aside an area for nonsmoking. Passenger traffic through the casino makes these areas useless. We have noticed a great number of smokers using the casino as a smoking only area who do not participate in any of the gaming you provide. This has turned your casinos into dens of smoke even in the nonsmoking areas. We are also concerned with the second hand health issues.

The concentration of smoke in the casino, not only a second hand health issue, has become so strong we feel uncomfortable in the Casino Royale (they smell like an old cigar). Staying away from your casino is good for our health and wallet, bad for your bottom line. Remember, all those smokers not gaming are just polluting the air for those of us who do.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT PASSENGERS USING THE CASINO AS A SMOKING AREA ONLY ARE NOT CREATING ANY REVENUE FOR YOU AND ARE CHASING MANY OF US AWAY…

How about if you're sitting playing on slots and two chain smokers come and sit themselves next to you - not to play, just smoking, which happened to me on a recent cruise? So I'm forced out of my seat in a casino where I'm spending money so they can sit and smoke.

I don't smoke but, I'm a construction worker who works around smokers daily. Both my parents and sister were/are smokers. And we go to Las Vegas yearly and love to gamble.

SO, with that being said, we went to the casino every night of our Allure 7 night cruise last year. And to be perfectly honest, I couldn't tell you how bad the smoke smell was in the casino because I really didn't notice it. But that could just be me because I'm one of those people that doesn't let a lot of things ruin my plans.

Casino is cruise speak for indoor smoking area. And yes I am an ex smoker. Quite 20 years ago.

On some ships the smoke is soooo bad that it is unbearable at guest services in the centrum. Especially on bad weather days. They need to have doors to the casino, to keep the smoke in. And they need to have doors and walls between the smoking and non smoking section. Or at the very least a way better smoke sucking ventilation system. Like smokeless ashtrays at all smoking slots and tables.

When we were on the Anthem, the smoke was really bad. You could not tell that there were non-smoking sections,,, the whole casino will filled with smoke, constantly.

They do a pretty good job on the Oasis class ships I have been on . They have the casino split up with a non smoking side and a smoking side . They positively pressurize the non smoking side ( bring more fresh air in than they exhaust ) to keep the smoke from the smoking side from migrating over . You will get some carryover , but for the most part it seems to be effective.

They would most likely keep the smoking side on a negative pressure to help keep the smoke on that side .

Smoking in the casino is not allowed on cruises sailing from the UK so Anthem will be smoke free for summer 2020.  However, rule doesn't apply to all European cruises as smoking was allowed on Oasis last year from Barcelona.

If you are sitting in the non-smoking area, you politely point out the "no-smoking" signs to them.  I have found that most smokers are very polite and do not realize when they have erroneously wandered into the nonsmoking area.

Empress is a special case but it seems to me that the main reason that UK and Australian based ships have non smoking casinos is the law banning indoor smoking in public areas/work places where they are home ported.  A little tighting of the Florida clean indoor air act perhaps.

I think you are very correct with that.

Funny, but I haven't seen any Australian casinos going bust because of the non smoking laws. The cruise industry in Australia also seems to be thriving.

It has been suggested before that similar laws wouldn't work in the US, mainly because the tobacco companies pay off the politicians.

I guess a side benefit is also that people are possibly living a little bit longer 🙂
