If you have not already done so, we encourage you to contact your cruise line, airline, hotel, tour guides, trip insurers, directly regarding next steps as to refunds, future travels, filing claims, claims denials etc due to these extraordinary circumstances. As of this evening nonessential travel to Italy is not recommended by the CDC.

We are booked on a cruise out of Venice in May. Time will tell how this will play out.

If you are interested, here is the current infection status per region. Yes, it is in Italian:

https://www.corriere.it/salute/malattie_infettive/20_marzo_01/coronavirus-italia-positivi-sono-1577-34-morti-83-guariti-dati-1-marzo-215bf998-5be0-11ea-ae74-e93752023e91.shtml

"tamponi" means the q-tip used in tests, so that column means number of persons tested.  92% came back negative.

Update Travel Advisory from US State Dept as of Feb 29.

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/italy-travel-advisory.html

Level 4 - Do Not Travel to:

  • Lombardy and Veneto due to the level of community transmission of the virus and imposition of local quarantine procedures.

Thank you!

As an FYI, the links in the original post are to live websites and so they will be current no matter when someone clicks to view the latest travel advisory status.

Please take care everyone. Lots and lots of hand-washing!!!

Worldometer.com has excellent information and experts opinion. Daily updates. South Korea is testing far more than the USA. 14 nights quarantine and compromised immune system is keeping us from booking any other cruises.

Glad we enjoyed the cruise of 14 nights February 2020 and not sick.

Caution for the gym and yoga. Being diligent about crowds.
Wife is a cancer survivor and high blood pressure for me plus age 65 we have to be careful so I’m reading everything I can.

Personally drinking ginger water and lemon washing hands constantly. Walking around in fresh air. Yoga at home.

Starting today, March 8, through April 3 all museums in Italy are closed by an emergency decree of the government.  All theatres and cinemas, demonstrations or events of any kind, public or private, are also prohibited during this period.

This is not limited to indoor museums, Pompei and Herculeneum are also closed.

Here is today's New York Times article regarding Italy's national north region quarantine:

Italy Quarantine, Northern Region, March 8, 2020

WaPo had annoying pop-ups/email sign-up requests, USA Today piece wasn't specific to Italy, and then I stopped looking. I think NYT *might* not be counting COVID-19 info towards the usual 5 article per month limit for non-subscribers so click away. I was concerned about a perception of bias in news outlets....but in this case hopefully everyone has the same goal of safety and wellness.

Otherwise, it seems prudent to keep checking CDC, WHO, your government's and healthcare provider's recommendations, and continue to check with cruise lines and insurance carriers if applicable.

Do the 20 second hand wash often, bump elbows, keep smiling 🙂

In today's Corriere - there is a Costa ship quarantined in Civi. No mention of an overall docking ban.
