Mini Review Majesty

Recommended Posts

Took this last minute great deal a couple weeks ago new orleans 7 day round trip.

Pros of the Majesty

Great promenade deck, you can walk the whole ship seeing the ocean every step of the way, the food (Cajun themed) was delicious (jumbo peel and eat shrimp was served 2 different nights at the buffet) embarkation was unbelievable (never in all my cruising did we board so quick and efficient), sports court was open 24 hours a day (nice!) Saw people bringing cases of water and soda on board - great that royal allows this.

Cons of the Majesty

Theatre was to small and odd shaped hardly a good seat in the house, stage was so tiny it made the awful production shows even worse, and if you think the production shows were bad well at least you had this other main theatre entertainment  a cover band (eagles), a comedian with 20 year old jokes, and an "entertainer" that was once kicked out of the real world house on mtv for being such a jerk.

I booked last minute and was awarded 8pm dining with strangers (so we never ate at the dining hall, not gonna listen to some joker for 7 dining nights go on and on about being the president/director of widgets and how important he is) about 50 percent of our cruising has been ncl we like to eat by ourselves when we want, well that was not gonna happen and the maitre dei stated we could not change (my fault I know I booked that cruise knowing this was the only option but it would have been a nice touch to change us to anytime dining). The food was great at the buffet however royal was letting people cut their own cake, how unsanitary is that (licking fingers etc)  There was not any sherbet on the cruise very disappointing.

Ports - Grand Bahama - we did not bother to get off the ship, Nassau -  we did not bother to get off the ship, Key West 9:30am - 2:30pm, sure could have used a few more hours at the only decent port on the cruise.

Overall food was better than NCL, the majesty is an old tub and we would sail it again if the price is right.  Entertainment was horrific.

Did you guys go to Coco Cay? Does the Compass Deli still serve crepes?

our cruise did not go to coco cay, (the cruise after ours did) I did not see crepes on deck 12 at the deli.

In addition (to the mini review) the ship was laid out oddly for instance if you needed an elevator to get to compass deli (bow) you would have to take an elevator from the stern then walk across the ship. Many other situations like this, where it was an odd path to get places.  Elevators in the middle of the ship went no where just 4 floors in either direction.  A small ship with no bells and whistles, aka -  no ice skating rink, or flow rider, etc.  Best part about the ship was the promenade deck.

I spent 3 weeks on the Majesty in late January to mid-February, and I would definitely not call her an "old tub".  She's been refurbished to included quite a bit for a smaller ship:  great sports court, rock climbing wall, toddler/kids swim area, and the BEST Viking Crown Lounge in the fleet!  Almost 360 degrees of ocean/port view.

The food in the 'Jammer and Main Dining Room is excellent, too.

The crew is consistently amazing:  all over the ship.

I stand by my definition of "old tub" because the majesty is, no ice skating rink, no acrobats, no flow rider, no zip line, no water slides,  no etc.... a very old ship with not many fun active things to do except for the gym, sports court, rock wall.  Even though I really like the promenade deck (best feature of the ship) it was still beat up looking, deck 12 above the pool, well apparently the deck was so bad they tried to cover it up with some generic form of astro turf.  I would sail the majesty again if the price is cheap.

It is a great VCL but they unfortunately don't utilize it.  When we were on board in January, it was always cold and empty.  I checked back several times during the week but it was dead space except for a small group of Diamond members one night who brought their own food / drinks to have their own Diamond Happy Hour event since RCL canceled it on this ship.

If you want a quiet, empty place to read a book it is the place to go. If it is the winter months, bring a blanket.  I found it sad as I recall these great panoramic Viking Crown Lounges as being a fun place to go and socialize.

Since I participate in absolutely ZERO of any of those activities, I don't really care if they are available on a ship or not. Others might enjoy them, so it is nice that you expanded. The aerial shows in the centrum on all of the ships (that had them) are gone now.

We were on Feb 1 sailing. We didn't get off in Nassau, Freeport or Key West. I agree about the 2:30 all aboard, that is ridiculously early for a port stop. I thought the ship was fine. I ate dinner at the Compass Deli every night. I saw Schooner Bar, Boleros, Casino. I went in the Windjammer once.  We went to Spectrum one evening. Viking Crown once for an event. That was pretty much it. I mostly sit on the pool deck and read on vacation.

Our stateroom was nice, we had a Junior Suite. We had a delayed return because of weather in the Gulf. It was fun to sail up the Mississippi River in the daytime, on a cruise ship.  :classic_biggrin:

One activity that some will love is the smoking, on the majesty you can puff away, one whole side of the promenade is dedicated to smoking, however I have seen people smoking everywhere on the promenade without any employee saying anything about it.  Also one whole side of the pool area is dedicated to smoking.  I saw many people smoking in nonsmoking areas.  So if you are a smoker this is your ship.

Ah,  the good old Majesty. We sailed on her for our second* RC cruise and first 7 night cruise way back in Aug of 99. Been on about 20 cruises since but that one was a favorite.  Always interesting to hear about her.

*Our first RC cruise was on the Empress.
