Are you forced to take the cruise credit?

Now that royal is offering a cruise credit, does anyone know how that is affecting cruise cancellation insurance?

 

I booked a transatlantic cruise so I'd much rather take cash than a cruise credit so I can book in the future with any line.

The cancellation penalty would be 100% but the credit card insurance would fully cover it.

The only complication is that RCL has a future cruise credit option - would the insurer force me to take that option instead of a 100% fee cancellation resulting in a cash payout?

Are you sure that your credit card would cover this? What is the basis for cancellation?
 

If it is a covered reason, then the offer of a cruise credit should not matter. I just didn’t know a credit card would let you cancel otherwise.

That would be good information for all of us to have.

 

In the past, an insurance company would make you prove that you weren't being compensated in some way, (refund, future cruise credit, airline credit, etc) before they would pay out. I know that you could refile at the end of the expiration of the future credit if you did not use it, but your situation is a little different.
