Below is the link to two ships of Ponant that docked in Rio. The were 20 days (coming from Antarctica) at sea with no COvid-19 case, and no port accepted them.

I do not follow Ponant, so I was not aware of them, Glad my city accepted both ships.

We should never forget our humanity.

I regret to inform that the Canadian guest passed away early today. His wife is getting better but is still in the hospital, according to Globonews.

It was also informed that Silver Shadow sailed away this morning to Cabo Verde.

Hi, I clicked on the link but can't find anything for translation to English......can you translate for us?

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, two French-flagged ships requested humanitarian aid from Brazil in order to be able to dock and remove their passengers to their countries of origin. After receiving authorization from the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), the first of them, the L'Austral cruise, docked this Tuesday (24th) in the Port of Rio de Janeiro and removed 252 passengers. None of them showed symptoms of the new virus.

Anvisa reported that the ship was at sea, without docking at any other port, for more than 20 days, that is, a period longer than that recommended for isolation, without cases on board.

For the removal of passengers, Anvisa demanded that everyone use protective equipment. The measure aimed to protect passengers, in view of the community transmission already confirmed in the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The ship is currently anchored in front of Copacabana Beach awaiting the arrival of the second ship, Le Boreal, which should dock at the port on Wednesday afternoon (25). Both will make a technical stop to supply water and food and will continue together back to France, country of origin of the vessels.

This Wednesday Le Boreal completes 10 days of sailing without having docked in any other port. There are also no reports of suspected coronavirus cases on board. However, disembarkation will only be authorized from tomorrow (26), provided that all health conditions required by the agency are maintained.

Anvisa also stated that the disembarkation should happen as the return flights are available to passengers. Transportation takes place directly, that is, from the ship's door to the airport. By means of a note, the Píer Mauá Terminal, in the Port of Rio de Janeiro, informed that there are 324 passengers aboard Le Boreal, 124 of whom are guests. There is also the presence of elderly people.

The terminal also highlighted that passengers board the available buses as soon as they leave the ship, without passing through the Pier Mauá.

Thank you for your updates Lirio.

You noted the Shadow is sailing to Cabo Verde.  That indicates she's probably heading toward to Athens where she is scheduled to begin sailing again with passengers on May 14.

Is it possible that on May 14 all this situation about covid-19 will have finished? I am booked on May 29 on cloud from dublin to Reykyavik. I havent canceled but I am sceptical that this will have finished.

So  sorry to hear the news about the Canadian  guest.

All we heard until Sunday  was that he  was improving.

Also, we did not hear that his wife had the infection. We  were told he  had  some pre-existing condition.

Sad for  his  wife, alone,   away from  home .

No word from Roma. I wonder how you are  Roma?  Thinking of you.

Hard to say, but like you, I tend to be skeptical.  But, you're 9-weeks from your voyage, so there is hope it will sail.

Thanks Lirio.  Very sad to hear about the passenger who became ill.  We'll keep fingers crossed for your cruise.  Wasn't that video from Roberto a bit overly dramatic considering they have May cruises planned?

Roma, wishing you the best, please keep us posted.

  • Typical  Trump, stealing all the credit for the  governments.
  • We  know the  truth.
  • Silverseas  must have paid  out  millions on  this exercise. They would  have paid  the overtime for the  20+  police  motorcyclists , bus, police  car in front, airport  staff,  charter flights, then when we  got to Sydney  a SS  Rep  met us with  a package ''breakfast'' and  domestic  Business class  tickets to  our  home  cities  and  assisted  us to thecheckin , the    buses , then  rang a day  later to  see if  we arrived safely.
  • Not all other  travel  suppliers  have been so  ethical  or  caring,
  • I  do hope  Roma  gets  home  OK and  am sure sh e will be looked after, as we were.

So sad one has to drag politics into this....please keep your biasis to yourself!

No word from her  may  be ominous, or she may be travelling.  Let's hope it is the  latter.

As of Friday, she was still in the hospital and grieving the death, with her Brazilian nurses, of the first passenger who was taken off the Shadow with Covid-19.

There are other cruise ships in quarantine in Brazil this week. One from Costa (Costa Fascinosa) and Scenic Eclipse. The former had 35 crew member with covid-19. The second had no one infected. In both cruses guests have already gone before. Both are at Santos Port in Sao Paulo.

Hi all,

The silence  is not good. I wonder if  Silverseas itself can give advice as to what  happened to Roma.

I do not even know her  surnname,  although  I   socialised with  her on several occasions.

Her sister was in this post early. Hls22. I could not send her an email as it seems the email system is not working.

I don't think SS would give out any information----security and privacy come into play.
