What will crew do

Nothing like that.   The ship was used as collateral to get a huge loan.

Makes sense. Thanks for that.

I assume the crew will go home like everyone else.  It’s a global pandemic.  I’m more concerned about global markets crashing, the virus being spread across homeless and other disadvantaged communities, and high risk communities.

I got off the Sun yesterday.   Emailed a member of the crew this morning to see how things were and I was told that all is okay.   They are staying on the ship and cleaning.   Many cannot get home as flights in/out of their countries are not available.

One of the articles mentioned that crews that were already on ships - they are staying onboard to clean or just be in their room.

1. "Crew life" is already a huge hookup with culture whether or not passengers are on board

2. Majority of the crew do not get paid enough to support a child

3. Crew and passenger relations are forbidden on the ship but when they're able leave the ship at port, "what happens when in port stays in port"

My Getaway room steward said they were staying on board and will be working to deep cleanse the ship.

This is true of the crew members you interact with yet on a typical NCL cruise, you will not interact with or even see the majority of the crew.  Many of which are young and do not have much seniority.

I am at Disney World now and it was announced that the park workers will cintinue to get paid during their 2 week 'vacation'.

they are paid until the end of March BUT they are being released with no guarantee that they will be rehired after this is over. At least this is true for the Disney college program employees

And it should be noted that it's only Disney cast members, Disney does hire a lot of independent contractors who will not be paid during the shutdown.

Just off the Bliss. As of this morning, the crew was staying aboard, although it's still up in the air. Nobody from the Phillipines wants to go home, because they would have to stay in Manila

Do you know where the Bliss will go for the next 30 days?

No clue. It's all just speculation at this point. Being friends with a couple of crew members, I can tell you they are all very stressed out over the uncertainty

I can only imagine what they must be going through. On a side note, I am FB friends with a certain crew member who was our butler in the Haven on the Bliss. I read this morning on her FB wall from others posting that she passed away very unexpectedly during this sailing. I'm still in disbelief.

I just tried to see why you can’t PM

me and it says feature disabled. I’m not sure how to enable it.

Were you in the Haven? Do you know what happened?

You cannot enable the PM function.   The admins don't allow it as a feature of the forum.

Just got off the Getaway. They wanted to shampoo our carpet for second time and we couldn’t stay out of room all day, so I bet they replace it.
I felt so terribly bad for one of the waiters in cagney’s. He was suppose to get off on March 8th when we caught the ship.  I did not understand why it couldn’t happen and now it want happen.  He was extremely sad and he said his kids was very upset.  That was just with a weeks delay, now this.😰

Curious as to how crowded the Bliss was for the cruise that ended March 15.

did it seem less crowded at buffet or at pool area?

Most of the crew comes from countries where the standard of living is significantly below the us (average per capita of $5000-20000). Using US economic standards as a basis for determining the financial well-being of crew members doesn’t make any sense unless they are living in the US.  The majority of the crew on cruise ships aren’t coming from wealthy countries.

A sailor away from home is a sailor away from home whether it was Yr 1010 or 2020.

Extremely valid point, however, we have to consider if one or both parents will need to contribute income and/or provide care for the child.  If one parent is working on the ship they're contributing financially but would not be providing care and vice versa.  On my last NCL cruise more crew members were from the Philippines (which isn't a wealthy country) than any other country.  According to this 2014 article, to raise a child in the Philippines it costs between $12800-$15000 which is inclusive of housing, transportation, etc. https://www.philippinesbasiceducation.us/2014/10/how-much-does-it-cost-to-raise-child.html  Room stewards, bartenders and waitstaff are the crew members that passengers interact with and are able to receive additional income from extra tips.  For the majority of the crew which are unseen, it would be difficult for them to raise a child on their salary alone.

Didnt seem any different than any other cruise. We got screwed by NCL and weren't allowed a FCC or any sort of compromise, so most people sailed instead of losing out on thousands of dollars. The only thing was that in the Bahamas on thursday, any Europeans aboard were allowed off the ship to fly home from there, as they wouldnt have been able to fly back to Europe from NY on sunday. But even after those passengers disembarked the next 2 days seemed the same from a passenger perspective. The crew was really great with the disinfecting procedures. The ship was entirely hands off. No self service at the buffet, no books in the library, no grabbing your own towel from the rack at the spa, etc.. it was great and very efficient. Every single chip in the casino was sanitized multiple times every single night.
