helen haywood Posted September 2, 2020 #7485 Share Posted September 2, 2020 When we got our first color TV we all sat down to watch The Wizard of Oz. My father was very upset and thought he’d bought a defective model. We never realized the first part of the movie is in black and white!

That's why it switches. Obviously BS, but good enough to fool a kid😉

Does anyone else remember when those tinted plastic screens you put on the front of the TV to “simulate” color TV? Man, they were horrid! 😱 Sure do remember them.

snaefell Posted September 2, 2020 #7497 Share Posted September 2, 2020 Here in the UK colour tv's appeared at the end of the 1960's,they tended to be at pretty high prices,I remember an article in the news about a tv sales company selling a range of black & white tv's(can't remember the make) that had cabinets in various bright colours & advertising them as coloured tv's,at a price somewhat higher than your average black & white tv,you just know that many people read coloured as colour & were more than a bit upset to have paid way too much for a tv with a black & white picture, even if it was colourful! Gosh, I feel old so I'm off for a dry gin martini.
