Incredible. NSW has been happy to cash in on the income from having cruise ships based on Sydney, but when something like this happens, they don't want to know them. 'Fair weather friends' indeed. Do some authorities have the idea that a cruise ship automatically results in virus infections??? I can't see the justification for expelling the ship. There have been no reported infections on the Pacific Explorer. Leaving the ship tied up would not put anyone ashore at risk. If the NSW Police wanted to be extra cautious, they could order that no-one disembark unless it was a medical emergency. Rare MicCanberra Posted April 2, 2020 #171 Share Posted April 2, 2020 I think it is disgraceful to send these ships (that are home ported here) away. Where do they go, most other countries will not take them either.
The_Big_M Posted April 2, 2020 #172 Share Posted April 2, 2020 That's the issue. They're just sending them out on their own, without any plan or solution. It's the ultimate act of uncaring. And completely against maritime laws where the nearest country is meant to support them - even moreso in this case where this is its homeport. Exactly, all they have to do is go out of the heads and then call in to say they need a medivac and then come back in.
