Well what else can they do? And it's not just unvaccinated guests, it's anyone who refuses to disclose whether they have been vaccinated or not.

 

I'm certain RC and Celebrity would much prefer to only have vaccinated guests onboard but Florida won't allow that because their governor is playing silly political games. So the cruise lines have to deal with having unvaccinated guests onboard while trying to keep their vaccinated guests safe. I think they're doing the best they can but I foresee onboard outbreaks occurring.

Singapore has introduced a couple of interesting things.

Suite guests only can attend live performances.

Only 2 people can sit at a bar or restaurant together and they have to be from the same household.

So if you want to have a drink with a friend you have to order room service.

As it is a health issue I'm fine with that. The judge ruled in Florida for returning to mediation but with the proviso he thinks De Santis would win his case. This is a good work around for the cruise line to make taking a cruise for the unvaccinated unpalatable. Especially since that test price is per person and per test.

Those who choose not to get vaccinated have made a personal choice. They need to understand the ramifications of that decision which may and should include exclusion from many activities including cruising. I really don't care about anti vaxxers they can... but I don't think anyone wants their vacation or concert experience or any other enjoyable pass time ruined by some inconsiderate git. Don't want to get vaccinated? stay home.

Here is what one promoter did to get around the De Santis ruling:

 

"One Florida concert promoter thinks he has a workaround: offer $18 tickets to anyone who is vaccinated and charge $999.99 for everyone else. “I'm not denying entry to anyone,” said Paul Williams. “I'm just offering a discount.”"

Yes as well as everyone on the ship or event or wherever there are unvaccinated people because they can still pass on the virus to those who are vaccinated even if it is a milder illness (in most cases).

I am not sure if it is legally classified as discrimination if thevperson chooses to put themselves in that position. It is a decision the person makes  rather than race, religion, or nationality.

There are people that can’t have the vaccines and people who have strong believe not have , such as religious or just a plain old ratbags.

 

 I think that would be discrimination  for their medical or religious state.

Medical reasons will provide an exemption, as for religious reasons, that may also apply but there should be no exemptions for being a rat bag or anti vaxxer.

I don't see it as discrimination or segregation as in the old days. I see the measure to have unvaccinated guests pay for regular tests as a way to keep everyone well and also to allow the cruise ships to keep operating.

My sister has some kind of leukaemia that won’t kill her if she keeps it under control.She love to cruise and she appears fit.

She has been told not to have the vaccines available in Australia.

What does this mean? Is it only Pfizer or AstraZeneca she can't have, or is it she isn't eligible for Pfizer yet? Can she have Moderna or Novavax when they arrive and are approved?

Anyone with a reduced or fatigued immune system is vulnerable for medical reasons , people undergoing cancer treatment and post treatment would qualify although they may not be able to cruise .

Wish she were here in the US where there are various other vaccines they could give her.

All cancer patients at Sloan Kettering Memorial in NYC, are getting vaccinated. They were given first priority, no matter what cancer or stage they are currently.  Sadly, I know too many friends and family who are battling horrible diseases and all of them have been vaccinated immediately at the request of their doctors. All of them have been given Pfizer.

My sister in law has an auto immune disease.  She gets 6 hour infusions every month to keep her body going.  The first hour is benadryl due to her being allergic to some of the ingredients given to her.  Her doctor had her get her Pfizer vaccine in a hospital setting just incase she had any adverse reaction.  

Hoping your sister continued health, I am sure she is very nervous about not getting any vaccine for protection.

Actually, I am quite surprised how far behind Australia is in vaccination.  I thought with so few people (compared to US) and isolation, Australia would be leading the world in kicking ass and ridding your country of covid through vaccination.

Her specialist has only advised her on the vaccines available and her current risk.

The other vaccines will be assessed when the become available.

 

But the whole morel to the story is there are people who can’t have vaccines.

Medical reasons or they are bought up in a religious atmosphere that doesn’t allow it .

My sister has been cruising for 10 years with the consent of Royal Caribbean and the specialist at sydney uni.

She can’t fly long haul and can’t get insurance. So if something happens onboard she loses her house.

But what the heck she said, I will come to live with you.

Australia has really dropped the ball with vaccines.

 I believe they are getting more approved but they are taking the long road.

 Probably the experts making a job for their self.

The vaccination situation here is getting worse and won't start improving until we get more supplies of Pfizer, plus Moderna and Novovax later in the year.

 

We started off slowly as the vaccines went through normal approval processes not emergency approvals.

 

Then there was a supply holdup.

 

Then the governments screwed up distributing the vaccines.

 

Then the blood clot issue with AstraZenica meant a lot of people refused to get vaccinated. They've now changed the rules so under-60s can get Pfizer but supplies of that are limited.

 

Then a lot of people decided that there weren't many cases here so there was no rush to get vaccinated.

 

There are no incentives to encourage people to get vaccinated. That might change once there are more people fully vaccinated - those who had AstraZenica are only just starting to get their second shots.

I saw on the news last night that they are giving a free live chicken to encourage vaccine in the elderly in Indonesia.😁
