It was great to read this article by a Doctor who was immersed in the Princess Covid infections.

EXCLUSIVE: The doctor sent to contain the coronavirus outbreak on the Ruby Princess said there is nothing to fear about the ground zero pandemic cruise ship and said he would definitely holiday on the vessel.

Australian doctor Dr John Parker was sent in to contain coronavirus outbreaks on the Ruby Princess in Wollongong, the Diamond Princess in Tokyo and the Grand Princess in San Francisco.

And while he said cruising would never be the same, he was adamant he would go on a cruise on those very ships in the future.

Wonderful to see some positive news about cruising from an appointed professional.

Interesting,

I just hope he posts his schedule, it sounds like he is a jinx to be on all those ships.😝

Following the evidence to date from the Ruby Princess - Special Inquiry (another thread on this board), it seems that - among many new  health requirements that the Aust authorities will insist on, it will also include:

- The ship to have adequate supplies of Covid testing swabs (for on shore testing)

- The procedures when pax present with respiratory like illness will be taken much more seriously - on board for isolation - and for Covid testing prior to disembarkation on shore

- The Aus authorities may also prescribe that pax with  serious respiratory type infections (with OR without temperature) should undertake medical assessment on board free of charge - to have a better chance  for Health Dept to get a handle on potential covid problems much, much  earlier.

- The ships reports on sick pax will need to be much more thorough and comprehensive - and submitted in sufficient time prior to the ship's arrival for any risk on the ship to be assessed by Health NSW.

But...

That still isn't going to solve the problem of passengers who refuse to go to the medical centre, and insist on mingling through the ship when ill because "I paid for this cruise and I'm not going to let a stupid cold spoil my fun".

The cruise lines will need to encourage the crew to report anyone they notice coughing or sneezing but I can't actually see that happening.

All these recommendations would make me more likely to cruise again. How often do you hear coughing in the theatre.  Not reporting when showing symptoms will need a deterrent. Banned from ever cruising again? Confined to cabin of the duration of the cruise?

How will that work with someone like bronchial asthma, I sound like a sick walrus ruin most winters, have done all my life, seen specialists without end who assure me I have nothing contagious, same as many with COPD or even what we use to call smokers hack.

I agree, I have allergies and asthma and at certain times of the year have a persistent cough. Many people, in particular those in the older age groups, also have a similar cough. My daughter, in her 40s has a cough brought on by anxiety.

A visit to the Medical centre would clear those with legitimate issues and find the infected ones. Nothing to fear.

With the process Princess plan to put in (much the same as all other cruise lines) this should take care of at least half of these.

Exactly, and those with chronic conditions could carry, like Gut and Leigh, could carry a doctor's letter explaining their condition.

Maybe 10%. It's the ones that come down with a cold or flu after embarkation and who fall into the "my cruise, my fun" category that will always be a problem unless they are forced to get medically checked.

I can’t see that happening either, witnessed many people miss the hand wash as did the attendants who were not strong enough to enforce.

One deterrent to going to the medical centre is the possibility of being off loaded if suspected of being a health risk? Cost is another.

We have read about people being off loaded prior to all this latest crisis.

Urinary infections, confusion or suspected/confirmed mental health issues or dementia.

Can live with the extra precautions and hygiene measures. Wearing masks will be new and not attractive but we may not have any choice.

Not sure how eating/drinking will work.

With travel insurance not currently covering COVID19 that will make passengers less likely to get a medical check up because of you are diagnosed with COVID19 you will bear all the cost.

This was posted on my facebook group.  Who knows if this just BS or an actual leak. To me the words confidential suggest someone is trying to make it look real, but who knows.

No photo description available.

Good pick up. But a lot does make sense. Still a guessing game anyway.
