Tell me about nieuw statendam

Recommended Posts

You should read around the board...many reviews, threads and discussions about the ship. Also pay attention to threads about the Koningsdam, as they are close to twin sisters. We have been on Koningsdam...wonderful ship, lots of new features.

Many of us would like to help you, but we need to know what you want to learn about Nieuw Statendam.  Reading reviews on CC are very helpful.  Asking more specific questions on this Message Board about what you have read will lead to more specific, better quality answers for your questions.

By the way, there is really very little you "need" to know. Many of us started cruising before the internet, and knew maybe 1/100 of one percent of what is available to you right now on this board, on any given ship. So, a little research gets you tons of info very easily, but very little of it is critical.

No lie from this CC member:  After my visit as a young teenager to RMS Queen Mary on the day of her sailing to Europe and watching her sail, I said to myself:  I have to do this!  I began my research and reading on ocean liner travel from that Summer until my friend and I booked our first cruise in 1970 on Rotterdam V.  It was then--and continues to be--a learning experience.

We spent 20 days on the Nieuw Statendam this past October sailing in the Mediterranean. Having sailed on half of the 14 ship HAL fleet, it ranks very high in my book. The two negatives that I found were both operational. We were unable to enter the Port of Livorno due to wind and seas. I have never been to that particular port so I can't explain a specific reason as the weather did not appear to be that difficult. The other was that tendering seemed to be a problem. In Kotor, Montenegro, only four of the six tenders onboard were in operation. Returning to the ship two hours before the onboard time required us to stand in line for an hour. They eventually needed to hire two local tender boats.

It was nice having everything fairly new and old enough to have corrected any problems from the build. We were were in a Vista Suite (5104) which was very nice.
