He was sure enjoying himself in Chops and the sushi place earlier this week.  You could tell in his latest vlog where he said he was being sent home that he was none too enthused about it.  I would think he is safer.  They are all being closely monitored, having their temps checked daily etc.  They are doing some cleaning but it sounds like they are giving them plenty of time to enjoy themselves.  Much deserved but I knew they weren't going to allow them to "lay up" out there long term.

It sure didn’t look too rough! I’m assuming the sushi and the filet mignon being served up had to do with the amount of food that would start spoiling if it wasn’t eaten. I was curious to follow his vlog over the next few weeks to see if that kept up!

Do the cruise lines arrange charter flights home? Aren't most long-haul international flights cancelled?

I believe they do.  I have talked to several in the dinning area who have worked with them for a long time says, they pay their air fare to the ship and return home.  Most of those going home will probably be on the same flight or at least a lot of them.  It surely beats what MSC is doing, trying to bargain with their contractors --->>>https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2020/03/articles/disease/covid-19-appealing-to-loyalty-and-preying-on-fears-msc-cruises-pressures-crew-members-to-waive-right-to-be-paid/

I believe it was in the "Chops" vlog where he actually used the term "leftovers".  He's a bright guy and I am sure he and the others realize that "top shelf" grub was going to be short lived.  LOL!  Good for them getting to enjoy it while it was available however.

I have been told that the casino teams are Royal employees and not contractors. To much money to be made to hand it over like the shops and spa.

This is true.  A number of years ago Royal took over the casino from the concessionaires.  These are Royal employees now.

Not likely, not set up for them and cost to high. Cheaper build/use shore based temp facilities. Carnival had loaned out older ships as barracks for workers to sleep/eat on after Katrina...

Wow! I'm a child of the sixties and was often irresponsible so I'm not going to berate these kids.

We were all young and irresponsible once😊

Any what does reducing student loans have to do with this?

Refresh my memory please.  What medical crisis did we experience in the 60's.  You are comparing apples and oranges.

Many people are dying and many people are spreading this virus.  Why not stay at home and think of others and their health?

We really don't need them in Florida at this time.

I think he says HE is one of the first and that it’s not just casino crew, but across departments.

I do wish he had said when his contract was up. Maybe more information tomorrow. Not looking good to cruise at the end of May. 😔

His contract was up in March 8th or 15th. I was thinking of jumping in the Oasis, “free” from the casino to see him again. I knew him from the Mariner as assistant casino host.
I had asked him before I was going to book it. Decided 1.5 months not to go. That is why I know when his contract was suppose to end.

Sounds like he is in the first group of crew members being sent home, perhaps his blog has something to do with that.  Does appear they will not be starting up again on 4/12/20, otherwise it would be a terrible waste of time and money.  Good luck getting back to UK.

Personally I think his vlog shows the cruise line in a good way

Those spring breakers really make me angry. I can't imagine what they would do if the airlines suddenly cut flights and they couldn't get home. I bet they would just call their Mommy to bail them out. And, why is it that those same college kids think the rest of us should pay for their student loans? Rant over. Sorry.

Where are their parents?

New cases and the rise in deaths not a good sign, but then I keep seeing beaches filled in florida.

Florida needs to quit with the greed and close down the parties.

Texas needs to do the same.  I have seen news casts with videos showing beaches  crowded with Spring Breakers.

With the information given is appears that the cruise line isn't renewing his contract at this point.

What happens at the end of the contract, they send him home for at least two months.  He then signs a new contract and comes back to a ship.  There is no "renewing" a contract.

I follow Chris on You Tube, have for a long time now, since his channel started. I was surprised and discouraged when he said he was going home. That signals to me they are not sailing anytime soon. Hard to get people home, hard to get new crew to the ship. My May 10 Oasis cruise is almost certainly in jeopardy. 125% FCC and sail in Sept and use the rest in 2021.

Let me say if this lasts 18 months we are gonna wish we were all dead. There will be absolutely nothing left to the entire world economy. I do not believe it will last that long. China cases are dwindling. Wuhan for the first time the other day had absolutely no new cases. Now can I trust that info, may be not but for my own mental health I am believing it. We are delayed because it started here later. No politics but WE, as in WE as nation have bungled the first few weeks. Testing ramping up which means we will hear of more cases. That also means the death rate will fall significantly. Probably end up 1% which is not good but better than 3%. Yes, don't let people fool you, its worse than the regular flu.

His contract was up, we don’t have any information on the status of other people’s contracts that were also being sent home.

I do agree that they are not sailing cone April 11th but sending some people home at this point does not infer any timeline.

It would be interesting to hear if they ate bringing replacements on. This way they have a 2 week quarentine period before sailing.

I agree with you. Right now we are trying to avoid overwhelming the health care system. In a few weeks we will be trying to avoid collapsing the economy. With a 99% survival rate people will take their chances to get back to work again because otherwise the economy could become a worse evil than the virus. IMHO

I agree, I have to work right through it and I can't work from home. I am blue collar, not in an office and I'm considered a first responder.

They don't need to be set up for full hospitals, isolation rooms a plenty though with full facilities to supply food, linens etc. There are at least wto ships docked in the UK at Tibury that have been donated for that purpose...

Just the cost factor, Carnival has in past and will charge, power running the ship, manning on ship side to operate it. Then Medical, even if low priority cases you still need Emergency Dr, Nurses, Equip to inc O2/ect. Even halls too narrow, elevators too small. These massive Cruise Ships arent it, a modern warehouse

would work better... Ships used house military, workers, have been used many times in past, that is possible

Skeleton crews are what I am reading on other sites.  They certainly are not anticipating a short order startup

Just about every hotel on land is virtually empty.   Better situated and easier access.  It's a struggle getting wheelchairs up gangway at some ports.
