Mickey Arison has agreed to assign Carnival ships as facilities to house people during the current crisis if needed.

Man, I missed this. Just got home after foraging for hand sanitizer. I'm listening right now.

How would they charge people

Government would pay to charter the ship. I'm sure we need doctors right now. They are going to use our naval medical ships for non-coronavirus related treatments. I would hope to God they test anyone before they get on a ship. Staff included and check temperatures daily.

I agree. It's the only way it could work. And what a smart move on Micky's part. It would provide desperately needed income to an otherwise empty ship.

if this happens, then how will carnival resume cruising in the middle of April?

Highly unlikely anyone will be sailing April 10th or even through the beginning of May. That's just my guess.

I highly doubt that any cruise lines will begin operating again until after summer. JMHO

If I remember correctly Carnival chartered ships to the government and ported them in New Orleans post Katrina.  They housed many many people who were left homeless after the hurricane.

Our very own Cruise Critic has the story here: https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=1389

Two ships were ported in Galveston and one in Mobile.

I applaud Carnival for helping.  I feel that this pause in cruising is going to last a lot longer than first announced.  My workplace daily meeting (now remotely) said we are anticipating 30 days of 25% workplace workforce in NYS if rate of infected does not flatten.
