bobstheboy Posted December 3, 2023 #52876 Share Posted December 3, 2023 Another cold day after overnight snow. A North/South divide with the weather, the cold spell is set to continue where we are until at least mid week. Decorations are up and Marie has done a good job, even my den has a little Christmas tree !
Snow Hill Posted December 3, 2023 #52877 Share Posted December 3, 2023 Currently 0C here, we have had around 5cm of snow overnight, usual moans on community page about roads not being gritted, when they were, but many don’t seem to understand how the gritting process works, especially when temperature was -6C when it was snowing.

Beckett Posted December 3, 2023 #52880 Share Posted December 3, 2023 No snow here and temperature 2o at the moment. Glad you got home safely Michelle. For those friends in Cumbria - wow, what a deluge you've had. I hope you are all safe, well, and warm. Weather permitting, I'm going to a farmers market this morning. Ted is less than enthused about going out at all today. He's here beside me noe, snoring loudly, and I'm sure he's hidden his collar and lead!! Have a safe day everyone. Best wishes. Jane xx PS I'm so pleased some of you are all going to be meeting up on a future cruise. That OBC won't last long once you all get together. 12

Canada definitely doesn't stop for snow and ice. I once spent from September to 23rd December working in Nova Scotia and I know that they don't stop for snow. I was concerned that I wouldn't get home for Christmas but it was no problem. The drive from Pictou to Halifax Airport meant going over Mount Tom to Truro. I had to join a queue to get escorted by a snow plough. When the plane was ready to leave there were vehicles on either side of the plane spraying it with de-icer as it taxied so that it was safe to lift off. Lapland's the same, my sis in law goes out there often and the airports are open . Rule of thumb they get snow often ,those countries have more equipment to deal with that . We simply don't have enough bad weather to have the same set up as other countries . I had a late uncle who lived in Canada and remember him saying they could get snowed in for a week, so even though the airport was open ,he was going nowhere .

Countries like Canada are geared up for it, as they get snow all winter, every year. We get a few days snow a year, and in some years might not get any snow at all in some areas

The rest can wait until later in the week as we have a Yellow Warning for snow overnight, so one last trip outside to get snow shovel on empty indoor recycling bin into wheels bin. Top tip...Don't eat yellow snow.

I used to live in Langanpreising a village in Bavaria about 20 mins from Munich airport. We used to get lots of snow in winter, there were snow poles each side of the road to lead you out of the village but in the summer it was very warm with outdoor swimming pools everywhere Michelle

Rare Eddie99 Posted December 3, 2023 #52890 Share Posted December 3, 2023 Morning all. Yesterday’s horrible freezing fog has gone. It looked ok as we started our walk but a surprise heavy shower got us! 🌧. Pah. Never mind, we’re home and changed & dry now. I think I prefer it warmer but I’d like to be prepared for the rain Anyway, this is all nothing compared with some parts of the country. I hope everyone on this thread is ok

Munich airport reopened 6.00am this morning and playing catch up. My friends live in the centre and today are going to the Christmas market and ice skating. If that was the UK with an inch of snow it would be shut for a week!

yorkshirephil Posted December 3, 2023 #52894 Share Posted December 3, 2023 We had overnight snow again and it was frosty plus it is foggy making for a horrible day, we have more snow forecast this afternoon so looks like a quiet day in, Mrs YP keeps mentioning the Christmas tree so assume she wants to get the trimmings down from the attic but I am not biting. I noticed this picture on one of the local news feeds, anyone from Yorkshire will recognise the bottom place on the sign and who it associates with.
