I honestly think your niece should be persuaded to have a covid test done. Much better to safe than sorry given her health at the moment and her weakened immune system. I do understand just how awful you and your sisters are feeling at the moment and how frustrating it is not to be able to help as you feel you should, but all you can do is as much as is safely possible at the moment, which is what you are doing. Please take care and try not to worry too much, you're doing all you can for her.

She has called the cancer centre because her mum was of the same opinion as you and the advice from there is to not go for a test because she has already been exposed to it through her husband and if she does start to get unwell she is to call them and someone will be sent to her home to do a test.

I’m having a strange lockdown birthday today. John and I have had a nice walk and I’ve had a long phone call with my sister. Best of all though our son bought our grandson to our gate for some waves and giggles. Bless him I’m sure he thought it odd he wasn’t coming in! My mum also had her lump removed from her face first thing at a local clinic, in and out in half hour so that’s a relief.

Hang in there sis,only a short while to go and a vaccine on the horizon.We're making a break for it Friday,booked 3 appartments in Tuscany,Switzerland and France,also the Chunnel.Just hope the Ities accept our printed off forms.As with most things here they are a bit ambiguous and open to interpretation.Won't be happy until we've crossed the Swiss border.I feel like Steve Mcqueen in the great escape,I'll have to get a motorbike,cheers,bro.

I think that we have all become armchair experts on Covid over the last 10 months (I know that I have) and so we all tend to offer advice.  I now think that she did the right thing in checking with the experts in the cancer centre because they must have had other patients in the same / similar situations.  Anyone who is currently undergoing treatment for anything should take expert advice on these situations rather than do whatever they would do in a normal world.

Gosh there seems to be lots going on here on this forum today. Graham, glad you are feeling better and Avril, glad your daughter tested negative. Happy Birthday to everyone today, it’s my sons birthday as well, he is 32 today, I don’t feel old enough to have a son that old.

 I agree with you. In these trying times when people are experiencing difficulties, it's only human nature to try and offer a helping hand or some advice.

That is so very true.  We all try to help as best we can, some with a lot of knowledge of particular subjects, but every situation is different, and when it comes to medicine in particular it’s only personal advice from one’s own GP or Consultant that really counts.

 

I’m in an online forum catering for a particular rare medical condition, and you wouldn’t believe the number of people who’d sooner follow forum advice than Specialist advice.

Fortunately my niece is a nurse herself and is sensible.  At the beginning of the first lockdown she was working 12 hour night shifts on the Covid ward so she is well aware of what she should or shouldn't do.  It is just extremely unfortunate for her that she is going through this during a pandemic but she has a positive attitude most of the time.

 

I agree Avril that it is human nature to offer help whenever we can and it is right that we should.

Have you thought of writing a book about your 2020 covid  exploits and your eventual harrowing escape through Europe,  closely chased by hordes of Italian officials waving reams of paperwork? The stuff of nightmares.

I suppose lockdown birthdays for 2020 are in the majority by now?  My littlest granddaughter was one of the first in mid-March.  Arrangements all made, excitement building but No, she had to become 6 without her friends

 

Ho hum; it’ll all work out in the end but possibly not as quickly as many think and certainly not as soon as we all hope (tomorrow!)

It was my birthday on Saturday. Our celebration was an Indian takeaway from the posh restaurant, rather than from the normal one. We managed to celebrate our 45th Anniversary in a nice hotel for the weekend. We had Cote de Beouf. Perhaps we should have had a takeaway Ruby.🤣
