The beam on the Lica Maersk is 37.4 meters, or just 2.4 more than the Kdam.  If the K still has her lifeboats in place (and I presume that's the case) they're really going to be close to those poles on the near side of the lock.

Those poles are not nearly a close as they might appear.  I'd be more worried about the walls the gates disappear into:

I don't know how accurate this is, but it shows K "hugging" the starboard wall

I noticed that on vesselfinder.com. but if you enlarge the image then the starboard quarter of KDM is on shore.

Water level has to fall in second lock, as first lock fills to lift her up to the low level of second lock.  Watch to see if the water level rises in the catchment basins...

Great shots Essiemom!! What's taking them?  Clearly tenders in place on port side.

I took those from Carnival Splendor when she repositioned to the west coast.  EM

Oh yeah ... my bad ... clearly the K is not up to that position yet. Got too excited!

little white truck on the starboard side watching.  both sides now.

If we see lifeboats, that might be an extra spotter brought on to let the pilot know the distance from the wall, since the problem with the boats is apparently that they block his view.

I wonder if that tug is working as a "spotter."
