My TA raised hell with them

Another TA my friends are using is doing the same.

Get your TAs involved

We are the friends.  Our TA was able to get a cash refund processed even though we are within the 120 day period.  First they offered a 125% FCC which we declined. Now waiting to see how long before credit appears on credit card.

Hi I have a question for you more seasoned cruisers.  We bought travel insurance for our cruise which is probably going to get canceled very soon as it is in May.  Do any of you know if the insurance company will refund your money if the cruise line cancels your cruise?  Or will they give you a credit to use towards another cruise you might book?  Thanks.

Only if you suffer an economic loss.  So, in the case you describe and in all likelihood, no, you will not receive a refund or credit from the travel insurance company because you will be given options by the cruise line for a refund or future cruise credit should they cancel your voyage.

If you rebook at the time of cancellation you can often change the dates on the insurance to the new date.  We've done this twice when our trip was cancelled by the operator and rescheduled for a later date.

Stumblefoot is correct. If you receive a refund or a future cruise credit from Silversea, then the insurance company will deny any claim you submit.

By “refund your money” do you mean the insurance premium or the cruise fare?

Hi pausulli,

If you live in the USA, which policy did you buy?

We bought it through AIG not SS.  I guess I will just try to call them directly once I know what we are going to do if our cruise gets cancelled.  Thanks.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

* FUTUR CRUISE CREDIT (FCC)

FCC has 2 year validity from the issuing date.

FCC will be issued in the amount of the booking value paid. Booking value refers to the cruise fare plus any other purchased via Silversea such as air upgrades, deviations, transfers, insurance, hotel, land tours and pre and post and tours.

The FCC cannot be applied towards land programs, hotels, air and other non-cruise component of the new booking; ad hoc exceptions can be evaluated by Silversea.

FCC can be moved voyage to voyage towards any other 2020 voyage.

In contract with our standard policy, the FCC offered as part of the Covid-19 related cancellations or as part of the Cruise with Confidence program are transferable to family and friends and can be used partially and applied on more than one new booking.

The FCC cannot be used for a past booking or a booking that has been paid in full.

If guests have an FCC not related to Covid-19 Cancellations Policies that was applied to a sailing we canceled, this FCC will be reinstated with the previous amount used with the original expiration date or extend the expiration date to December 31, 2020, whichever is further out. This FCC must be used, and guests must sail by, December 31, 2020. Once re-activated, it can be combined with the Cruise with Confidence FCC on the new booking.

FCC can be combined with current promotions, meaning that FCC can be applied towards a booking with a promotional pricing.

^^ The double Venetian Society Days promotion is only applicable to FCC associated to cruises cancelled by Silversea. The guest will accumulate Venetian Society days of the original cancelled booking and the ones associated with the new booking, in case the new booking is done within June 30, 2020. It is combinable with all public fares and promotions excluding reduced rates and net deals. Only eligible for the Guests included in the original booking.

Other restrictions may apply.

^ CASH REFUND

The cash refund of the booking cruise fare paid to be credited to the original method of payment, to be received within 30 to 45 days of  guest’s request, due to exceptional workload Silversea is facing. The refund of 3rd party items purchased via Silversea such as air upgrades, air deviation fees, transfers, insurance, hotel, land tours, pre/post and overlands will be net of any penalties assessed by the suppliers.

Regarding the refund of 3rd party items purchased independently such as such as air upgrades, deviations, transfers, insurance, hotel, land tours and pre and post and overland tours; please reach out to the airline carrier, tour operator, or hotel supplier/chain directly to discuss options.

In the case of sailings cancelled by Silversea, the refund of cancellation costs of any independent air arrangements will be evaluated upon presentation of the expenses to our guest relations department. Unless the refund has already been processed, clients can change their mind and ask for the FCC at any time. On all insurance items: no refunds allowed; guest should file a claim with the insurance company first, prior to any refund/FCC given.

Specific about insurance in the US market: (i) AON – within 60 days it is not refundable while outside 60 days it is refundable; (ii) Allianz – Fully refundable (cash, not FCC).

Did you get an AIG Travel Guard plan?
