Yep,  have missed ships,  but never made it to the docks.   🙂    Stuck on a plane on my last "miss"

Almost missed getting on the ship.

Was going from Tampa to Port Canaveral and got a flat.

No problem, changed it and put on the spare.

Got another flat, big problem.🥺

Had to be towed to the tire store and wait for two new ones to be put on.

We were the last ones to board.

My BIL and SIL live in Cocoa beach and we had made that trip probably 100 times without a problem.

Came 5 minutes from missing the ship about 15 years ago in Key West.

Luckily missing the ship in a port of call is very rare.

We had a little chuckle last month in Aruba. We were out on deck watching for pier runners. The clock was ticking, sail-away getting real close. The pier where we were docked, you enter the secured area, turn the corner in front of one terminal, then have to walk the length of about 2 1/2 football fields to get to the terminal we were docked at. Everyone who rounded that corner was taking their sweet time. Finally, there was one couple moseying along, in no hurry, the last two people we saw headed our way. They got about halfway when we noticed a port security truck leave our terminal, drive up next to them and stop. I commented to my wife that he was probably telling them to hurry. A split second after I said it, our ship blew the horn. They took off running. I must admit, it was pretty impressive because they were an older couple, probably in their 60's, maybe even 70's. They made it. 🙂

Almost missed the ship in Ketchikan of all places. I had the all aboard time incorrect and luckily we decided to head back and board. We made it by about 10 minutes.

I never would have imagined pier runners in Ketchikan. 😃

Almost, but saved by minutes.

Got off in San Diego to visit family. Thought getting back on board was at 4. WRONG! It was 3. Thank goodness they called me. Made it by the seat of my pants. PHEW!

It was the first port on a 10 day journey. OMG!

We came close. We were on a ship sponsored excursion in Freeport that was running late due to numerous small issues that added up. On the way back I heard the ship on the radio with the bus driver asking for updates and urging him to hurry. We arrived at the pier about 30 minutes after the all onboard time and there were a group of officers waiting for us. I think they might have pulled the gangway up right after we boarded.

They would have been entitled to a refund of port fees and taxes and any pre-paid excursions at the least. Depending on the circumstances they might have received reimbursement from any travel insurance if they had it.

I was not entitled to any reimbursement.   The risk I took was 100% mine.     It was an experience.  🙂  

 

There were 19 people on the same flight who were also on the cruise.   I found someone who I thought knew more than I did about options.  (but-  no)     I tried to round up others,  but was hopeless with paralyzed panic people  (a BIG mistake,  not to at least have some basic back ups),  who couldn't manage.    Well it took me 2 days to catch up,  with multiple alternatives  not coming together.    Ended up only us 2 made it-  everyone else gave up and canceled-   some at total losses I'll speculate.      This was 3 years ago.

The ship held for our excursion being delayed once.  No stress except I missed the local liquor store.

No, we always fly or drive in the day before just for this reason.

We have never missed the ship but saw something rather amusing once. We were scheduled to leave Nassau at 4:30 I believe. 5:00 came and we were still there. We had a balcony room in the forward part of the ship and we could see the Captain pacing back and forth. He did not look happy. The guys with the walkie talkies were down by the ramps talking back and forth. We assumed that they were waiting for someone who hadn't made it back. Almost an hour after we were suppose to have left a van pulls up to the ramp and a couple of guys get out with clothes in plastic bags. Crew members uniforms maybe?? They never told us but apparently it was something they had to wait for! They handed them off to the guys with the walkie talkies, the ramps were pulled up and we left. So people didn't miss the cruise--but laundry almost did!!

Yeah, I love being on the side where the port operations are going on. When we were in Freeport last summer, we saw a couple like that so I screamed "run" and they did! They were well after the time to be back and you could tell the staff were getting very anxious. I figure you should at least make an effort to be quick when you are so late!

I was on the Breeze in January 2014 and our ship left a couple of people behind in Cozumel.  I always see pier runners in Nassau.

We do the same, but were panicked last June when our flights were delayed one after another and eventually canceled with NO other flight heading out (Worcester MA). I flipped! There were 6 of us and I just lost it. They ended up calling and paying for two Ubers- shuttled is to Boston, put us up in a hotel, and paid for our flights first thing the next morning. They also offered to reimburse our meals- we didn’t bother. We sacrificed the lodging in Miami where we had planned to stay because it was too late to cancel. I have to say, we felt very lucky because we did not have insurance! AND there were others who were piling into Boston the next day on our flight who also missed that flight- but they did not get the same treatment we did. We won’t attempt to fly from Worcester again! We were SO relieved to finally make the ship 😌

Never once. I haven't even been able to see pier runners fail except on videos. I feel so left out. 🙂

Never missed the ship but twice came close. On our first cruise used the fly 2 fun program. After getting up at 2 am for our ride to the airport. Two delays later were the last to board the ship. Stright to our cabin and get out life jackets for the safety briefing (yes at least back then you had to wear your life jacket).  Since have booked our own air and left a day early.  Then in Panama our excursion got a police escort back to the ship. We were the last group to get on. A group of 12 had done the same tour on their own. They got to stand on the dock and wave.
