People Still Booking Cruises

With all the doom and gloom on the board and comments that I read on Youtube I wouldn't think anybody would be booking cruises. Does not seem to be the case though. I have my eye on a couple Horizon cruises this August "Don't worry I know it is a slim chance that they will happen" specifically looking for Havana interior rooms and over the last week or so they have all but disappeared on all 3 Horizon 6 day sailings in August. Just an observation that I thought I would point out. Plenty of people still willing to roll the dice when things get going again.

 All me crazy, but I recently booked the 4 day out of Long Beach for June 29. It is suppose to be the 1st sailing, so I am hoping it happens. I can’t wait to get back on a ship!  I got a great offer and worst case is I have to use a FCC for a later sailing. If I do cruise in June, that ship will be whistle clean top to bottom and in between!

I agree. All that's coming down is happening so fast, I can't wrap my head around all the possibilities. When I'm about ready to trip the trigger, somethinghing deep down inside of me says...' hold on, don't act in haste.'  Now is the time to double think your desires. This stuff is happening way to fast for me. So I'm going to step back, and observe and absorb the news for a while before I act to hastily. Just IMO.

I’m with you.  Right now my casino offers are such that I am being offered $500 OBC and some sailings are less than $100 pp. That’s not even enough to make me interested and I’m not in a high risk health group. 
 

I was even thinking of going in November. By the time my final payment in August is due, Carnival will be holding $3k of my money. Then, if they close down everything in the fall again, I don’t want FCC or OBC.  I just want my money back. Immediately.  Years ago, I had a TA take my money and then file bankruptcy.  I was young and stupid and paid with a check. 
 

I believe in the power of positive thinking and that your outlook can help heal oneself in tough times.  This is not that. 
 

I really hope Carnival comes out of this ok and we’ll all sail again soon but just because I wish it so, doesn’t mean it will happen.

With everything that is happening people in general can't let this virus run their lives. Yes you should be careful like wash your hands often, avoid large crowds, if you're  sick stay home, the stuff you would do during the flu season. I would think the only reason the cronvirus is different there is no vaccine for it. Things will get back to normal and people will still cruise.

I'm thinking about rebooking for late July. The May Horizon cruise was canceled and Havana balconies are very cheap now. On the other hand, I'm still waiting on my drink package refund from a canceled March cruise. It seems pointless to give them more money and I'm still waiting for refunds!

I am  going 10/31/2020 on the Horizon.

I’m still booking. I put a deposit down a few days ago for a Princess Cruise. It’s not until February 2021 though, but I’m definitely still planning future vacations. If anything, it’s keeping me entertained and feeling upbeat. Better than feeling gloom and doom.

I’m much less worried about cleanliness on those first few cruises as how they can prevent asymptomatic folks from boarding & doubt even on the “inaugural” cruises you’ll see a lot of mask wearing, social distancing, ect.  1-2 cases easily spreading to dozens & in-room quarantine ensues.  Even the most optimistic cruiser would agree if this happens you wont have to worry about cruising again on 2020.

If we didn't have a trip to the DR at an AI in July, I'd book a cruise in a heartbeat, assuming it would be sailing in July. Some people are more worried about things than others. Everyone is different.

We now have 6 rooms booked for next spring. We would have done Sept but not all of our group could go then.

I wouldn’t want to go soon only because I would be worried about being quarantined when I come back BUT we have a cruise scheduled for December and one in May and we are definitely excited about them!

We're thinking about booking a cruise out of Long Beach for October, especially if our July 12th cruise gets canceled.

We are booked on the Horizon for 8/22/20. Originally had 13 cabins, down to 11 so far.  I know there is no guarantee we will still sail but holding out hope that things will be better and safe enough to sail.

Have cruises booked for Sep, Nov, Jan, Apr, Nov and we are working on Jan 2022 as we speak. Rather hope for the best and have fun to look forward to. We have had to reschedule one cruise so far. Hopefully that will be it.

I have no hesitation to book a 2021 cruise but not for this year. Too soon and refund for cancelling takes too long. Not worth the risk and hassle in my opinion.

The industry was very strong before the virus, it makes sense to me that people want to cruise and are willing to draw a line in the sand and hope for the best.  Look around the country and you will see people want their lives back, and cruising is part of that.  We have 4 booked and would have more but waiting on some specific cruises to come back up again before booking more.

I think the numbers for 2021 are skewed because a lot of people are booking cruises next year based on the belief that cruising won’t resume this year, which includes cruises cancelled this year (by the cruise line or by the passenger) that are now being rebooked for next year. I am curious to see what the numbers will look like for all of 2021, assuming cruising (hopefully) resumes by then.

I think there might be some panic booking going on, because of fear that all the FCCs that will need to be used in 2021 will drive up prices.  I almost booked another one this morning for March 2021, but caught myself in the nick of time.

I want my life back but I have to BE alive for that to happen. Not getting on a ship with 3 or 4 thousand people who may or may not have stayed at home and practice good hygiene.  I'll wait to travel until there is a vaccine and I can get it for myself and my family.

I understand your view, we all have to make our own minds up.  Your dilemma (actually everybody’s) will not even go away once there is a vaccine, we just do not know when we will have one, how efficient it is in working, whether there will be variations to the virus (mutants), whether there is a 2nd, 3rd, 4th wave and when they occur.  

 

My view is to have balance with all those things.  As we all well know, there are no guarantees, so we have to decide when and where and how we are willing to mitigate those concerns (at least in our own minds).  To echo your first line, we have to be alive, but I also want to live the time I have left in this world, and doing that in a bubble will just not make the cut.
