Hello

There have been a couple of threads with discussions about cancelled cruises and refunds and ideas to challenge Seabourn to get your money back


That is not what I am suggesting here.

 

i would like a simple thread: please post the date of your cruise, the date you cancelled your cruise ( or excursions or both). And then, when (and if) you get your refund, please post the date you received the credit. 

My thinking is that Seabourn will do this in some kind of order - probably based on the date you cancelled the cruise. By posting when you cancelled and when you received the refund, maybe we can see a trend and get an idea when future refunds will be coming.

cruise May 23 2020

cancelled excursions March 30 

cancelled cruise April 17

no refunds as of today (May 5). 

 

I am suggesting keeping other discussion to a minimum- there are other threads for that.

Cruise scheduled to depart      May 6 2020

SB sent email cancelation.       March 11

SB sent email saying refunds are 8-12 weeks on March 26

No refunds as of May 6 (7 weeks)

Phoned UK office 12th March and advised could take up to 60 days

6th May (56 days after cancellation) nothing

Email from SB advising cancellation 14th March

Refund form completed on line 16th March

SB email confirmed internet purchases cancelled 18th March.

No refund as of 6th May.

Email inquiry sent to Seabourn 4/26/20 

Auto response (don't expect to hear back from your email for two weeks)

We cancelled with our TA on 3-16-20

Seabourn acknowledged cancellation on 3-17-20

Amount to be refunded is $5253.80

Nothing as of yet (May 6) 50 days and counting

Penalty Invoice Rec't 3/23/2020

Per Seabourn Website FCC to be received automatically in approximately 2 weeks

Refund promised by Seabourn to TA to us  in 30 days

Unknown date 30 days for refund changed to 30 business days

TA Contacted Seabourn on  5/20/2020 and FCC promised by end of week, Refund promises 5/23/2020 (60 calendar days)

TA again contacted Seabourn 5/1/2020 as no FCC received and new date for both FCC and refund 5/23/2020

5/6/2020 Still nothing in writing other than invoice for cancellation penalty 43 days.

Cruise scheduled June 27th

Cancelled excursions April 1st

Seabourn cancelled cruise April 14th

Selected Option Two refund April 15th

Confirmation of cruise (including air) and excursions refund April 21st 

TA contacted Seabourn to request this written confirmation on April 21st .  At that time was told that the refund could take 60 days.

No refunds at this time

  • Cruise 5-23-20 (Ovation 28 days LIS-CPH; included Biz class RT air)
  • Received email notice from SB of cruise cancellation on 4-14-20, responded right away to Seabourn via their link that we were opting for cash refund, TA followed up with SB on 4-15-20 to confirm our choice
  • Received email Confirmation of Cancellation from our TA on 4-15-20 showing it was cancelled, the Payment Details (deposit, balance paid, and most importantly, it shows 4-15-20 , Payment Refund, Vendor Direct, and the amount of the refund)
  • As of today (5-6-20), have heard nothing from Seabourn but due to the amount we are owed ($31K+), I decided not to play SB's game of "maybe we'll get it in 30-90 days and maybe we won't" so I started a Dispute Claim with Chase yesterday.  Because it's a larger dollar amount, I had to submit a couple of documents to Chase (faxed this morning).  SB has 30 days to respond but not expecting them to dispute it.  Chase said it can take up to 2 billing cycles to show on our account so we hope to see it on our statement that ends June 10th.

Zelker, I would appreciate knowing if the detailed refund amount was sent by your TA or directly from Seabourn.  Our June 27th , 21 day Ovation sailing was paid in full on February 28th.  Business air was Included in the total.  We have not received acknowledgment from Seabourn that includes the amount of that full payment or that of the excursions.

Hi, Cru Doll - as I wrote, the confirmation of cancellation that detailed the payment and refund info came from our TA via email on a statement from them that looks identical to the one we received from them when we transferred the booking to them, again when we made final payment to them (our TA) in January, and then on April 15th after it was confirmed that we opted for a full refund.

 

We've received nothing in writing from SB since the original cancellation notice on 4-14 with the link to let them know which refund or FCC option we wanted.  Oh wait - not true.  We received cancellation confirmations for 4 TKG reservations which are, of course, ZERO charge to begin with!  😏

Thanks for the response, Zelker.

After I asked the question, I reviewed all my saved emails from Seabourn.  We did receive confirmations of all of the cancelled excursions and the amounts.  However, no confirmation of the cruise and airfare.  The six cancellations with zero balance for the TK was comical!  😊

Our fully-paid June 6 cruise was cancelled by Seabourn on April 14.  TA submitted refund request April 15.  I was concerned because our TA received no written confirmation that we asked for a refund instead of 125% FCC and we have no recourse if the June 1 deadline passes and Seabourn says, "Sorry, we didn't get your request for a refund and you must take the automatic FCC."

I got annoyed when I saw that our dinner reservations, shore excursions and flights were promptly cancelled and even more annoyed when I checked the website and it still shows our cruise as a go and nothing about our refund.  

 

I called Seabourn today and was surprised I got right through to a customer service rep. She told me the confirmation AND the refund would come simultaneously in 60 BUSINESS days.  I told her this made no sense to me.  She said a confirmation email could not/would not be send before then.  She saw on her screen that our TA had requested the refund on 4/15 and that when the confirmation and refund come in 60 business days, it would be sent directly to the TA because that is what our TA requested.

Having doubts a refund will ever be issued,  I filed a dispute claim with CC provider 5-5-20

We cancelled 4-2-20 and requested a refund

TA advises 60 days for refund.

Cruise scheduled for 3/8/20

We cancelled 2/27/20 (SB cancelled some 2 weeks later)

Got refunds on excursions on 3/1 along with FCC and used it for deposit for cruise  in March 2021

Awaiting refund of taxes (currently at 70 days) - recently (5/4) filed a dispute with CC

Awaiting refund on air fee changes - filed on 3/2 - will file a claim with CC if not received by next week.

More Seabourn cancellations now into October and November so tomorrow I will begin a new countdown with another cruise gone due to Corona.....

OK Folks, here is the spreadsheet I am maintaining.  I will update it here every few days.  The table will be in the order of the date that the refund was created.  Hopefully, more people will provide me their information.  Also, hopefully,  people will reply to this thread when they get a refund so we can share how long it took.  Looks like a few people are getting close to that promised "60 day" point.

I believe I lead the pack at 70 days waiting for the refund of my taxes - not a negligible sum of $2556.

Does that not count here because it sure counts to me.🙂

I was trying to keep it simple.  I am not sure if the refund of taxes or airfare or excursions follow a different process than the refunding of cruise fares.  But - for those interested - I will include tracking them, but separately.

on a side note, I just received word from Allianz that my trip insurance premium was fully refunded.  If you had insurance, check to see if you are eligible for a refund.
