OSUTRIKERS Posted May 9, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2020 I’m sure I am beating a dead horse, but has anyone actually gotten a refund yet? I got ‘notice to refund’ on excursion and onboard purchases, but HAL said that just a notice to be refunded. No email notice on cruise/airline refund. Sad.
Rare Crazy For Cats Posted May 9, 2020 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2020 This morning our March excursion cancellations appeared as a credit to my card.
OSUTRIKERS Posted May 9, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted May 9, 2020 Did you get an email notice from HAL to know it was there? At least that’s a start.
dfish Posted May 9, 2020 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2020 I received a refund of $2.95 for distilled water. A step in the right direction. No email notice, though.
fatcat04 Posted May 9, 2020 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2020 (edited) We cancelled our family cruise back on March 7th when they first allowed us to do so. Our excursions, dining, drinks packages, photo package, and flowers were all cancelled and an email was sent from HAL March 10th. The refunds of approx $2600 hit my credit card and bank on March 15th. Our FCCs for three cabins however haven't been processed yet. OSUTRIKERS Posted May 9, 2020 Author #6 Share Posted May 9, 2020 Fatcat, you may be lucky since you started in March before HAL started cancelling and allowing for full refunds. We cancelled April 14, the day they announced. No actual CC credits yet, just the 2 emails that excursion and onboard purchases had been ‘submitted’ for refunds. Just a waiting game. There have even been articles about filing for bankruptcy which I guess means they could write off their refunds (and reorganize). That definitely would be bad for future business. mickey52 Posted May 9, 2020 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2020 Cruise was scheduled for March 22. Canceled on first day allowed-March 15. Have called numerous times to be told they are doing refunds by a) sailing date and b)refund request date. Nothing. I realize HAL has thousands of refunds to return, but this is not acceptable. We are so close to being 5 star mariners, and that is probably where it will stay. Next step is credit card company. ski ww Posted May 9, 2020 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2020 We cancelled on 29 Apr, rebooked using our future cruise deposit for July next year, received a email from HAL this week telling us our HAL excursion has been refunded, waiting for our CC statement to show a credit. We were early in this whole mess so maybe that is the case. I don't know but maybe another compounding issue might also be credit card companies. Have you tried to call one and get something done lately? We did. Ugh, what a nightmare. We had our CC number stolen, something we consider a pretty big deal and needing immediate help. Well, nothing nowadays gets immediate help. It took a week to get anyone on the phone that could help and a few days past that for the charges to get reversed and new cards to be issued. Thankfully I could lock the card online but past that I needed a human. I spent 4 total hours on hold only to be disconnected 2 separate times. I was given 6 different phone numbers to try and an email address. One number even had a message saying noone was working there. When I finally got a human on the phone, they said they are working on a skeleton staff and that whole phone centers and processing departments, especially in other countries, have been shut down with no idea when they will be up again. I finally got to a fraud specialist after a sweet general service line agent took pity on me. It was a stressful mess for us. edit: and I know a couple of the folks I talked to were working from home (I heard the nice lady's fur babies barking in the background and of course I had to ask about her pups) ... probably another compounding factor I am sure. nyceve Posted May 9, 2020 #11 Share Posted May 9, 2020 Nothing, not even a single email. HAL needs to replace Mr. Ashford immediately. They are going to lose all their loyal customers after this corporate malfeasance!
DeeniEncinitas Posted May 9, 2020 #12 Share Posted May 9, 2020 I received my air fare on United last week from HAL and this came yesterday! This is accurate in regards to my HAL account of my on board purchases. My PCC Risa said my monies will be applied on 5/15. Long time waiting since we were on board 3/11 and we had to get off and fly home on 3/15! Denise😊

Loreto Posted May 9, 2020 #14 Share Posted May 9, 2020 Checking my bank web page today I was delighted to see that I was credited for the Alaska July shore excursion I cancelled March 24th when it looked like the cruise would be cancelled (it was.) That gives me hope that maybe I will be refunded for my HAL cancelled Hawaii cruise. 60 day mark is coming up next week. I expect a long wait for the refund on the 2 suites I booked for the Alaska cancelled cruise....maybe by October. Karen

Rare Mary229 Posted May 10, 2020 #17 Share Posted May 10, 2020 Reality check - information I received from an industry insider: Royal Caribbean, alone, has over 1.5 MILLION passengers to refund. 1.5 Million. CCL Corporation has many, many more. bottlenecks are also caused by the the cancellations needing to be adjusted for the normal percentage to being 100%. Bottlenecks are also being met at the credit card companies because of the mass of refunds being issued not only by cruise lines buts all travel companies such as airlines and hotels. My travel agency is connected with HAL. When all my excursions were cancelled including two extremely expensive shore excursions to Victoria Falls and a game reserve in Tanzania. All the returned money went to our onboard board account. When it is two people, the amount is sizable. Especially when you could buy one or more cruises. After our experience on the Amsterdam, I will think twice about private excursions. Fortunately, we weren’t part of either party that did overland to Ayers Rock. The HAL group, HAL helped get home. I believe the private group was on their own with now way to get back to the ship. Never heard what happened to any of them. As none were allowed back onboard. It certainly would have been extremely stressful.
Queen of DaNile Posted May 11, 2020 #23 Share Posted May 11, 2020 I cancelled our dining reservations on March 27 for our April 10 cruise and promptly got an email acknowledgement. Refunds were posted on my CC on May 8. Email telling me what our future cruise credit is arrived on May 7. Still waiting for CC refund for air, port and taxes. OSUTRIKERS Posted May 11, 2020 Author #24 Share Posted May 11, 2020 It is sounding very much like I am just in the pipeline.. somewhere! Since we cancelled April 14 , for our May 28 trip, I guess we are probably about on par time-wise with refunds. I can understand the massive number of refunds being handled. I just could not justify FCC since it was a multi-family trip.
