I would be more than happy for your if your cruise would be happening. But now we are at a point that cruises out of the US will not be happening in August, hence why continue to hope that you will be even more disapointed when it will not happen although you actually know it already.

Where is the link that states cruises won't happen out of the US in August?  I did not see that one.  Could you post it for us please?

When it looked like suspensions were going to be in 30-day increments, I figured Port Canaveral and private islands would be first, so I booked mid-June.  Then Carnival stated no over-70 letter, so I booked July.  Carnival cancelled, so I booked Royal for July.   Add on a couple of casino comped cruises, two Lifts and Switches.  Repeat, repeat, repeat.  At one time I had eleven booked, down to nine now, at least one a month through January.   I keep making changes in response to cruiseline changes, and I know what my next moves will be at all times.  It takes a detailed spreadsheet to keep track of it, but I enjoy it and I really didn’t have anything better to do.  I can’t wait to see which cruise we will actually get to sail on!

I hear ya...I have 28 cruises booked.  No way to tell which or how many will be cancelled.  Let the chips fall where they may.  I have time.  😉

I want to say that the same interview said they are likely to start with cruises in Asia and Europe.  No mention was made of when the US might start up---but I think the line needs to know things are controlled enough to not lead to terrible press again.

I even think there might be some cruises out of Shanghai in July?  I don't recall where I read that though--sadly.

Anyway--yes, I can imagine having a couple of ships sailing in Europe by August 1, and do not think that is totally unrealistic at all.  Many places in Europe have multiple weeks of declining or steadily very low rates of new infections, with plenty of hospital capacity and testing and there is a lot of talk about reopening tourism between those nations only within the next couple of weeks.  I can imagine that a cruise which, for example, only stops in Schengen Zone nations and only allows cruisers who live in those nations to sail might well get the go ahead.

For me the biggest piece, which was addressed as a priority by RCI; is making sure the embarkation/debarkation ports WILL allow everyone off the ship at the end and not turn ships away or hold people in quaratine for weeks on the ship itself.  If that is handled, I would be likely to sail if my August sailing out of Copenhagen happens and would feel reasonably safe going on it--far more so if it is limited to residents of the Schengen Zone for the time being, and not people flying in from places where the virus is not remotely under control yet (if those two pieces are both in place, I will sail for sure, barring a second wave of infections being in progress).

The cruise operator earlier said it expects to return to service on Aug. 1.

Only time will tell...

I didn’t see it either, however from the original post... They expect to start August 1st, but they never said where. 🤷‍♂️

They also expect refunds to happen in 30 days.

As the OP said, only time will tell.

😉  Was just looking for clarification from the poster that stated no cruises from the U.S. in August.  No one knows the future...can only guess, but we both know that officially the date was extended to July 31st,  as was the statement from RCI.  Even though we also both know that most likely there will be yet another 30 day suspension.

Right now it is not "all of August" as they posted.  Figured I would not get a response from that poster to that request.   😏

I think you know it was just that posters opinion that US cruises won't happen in August.  And it's an opinion that will likely be proven right.

If you have 28 cruises booked it's going to be full time work for a while keeping track of cancellations, refunds, FCC's, re-bookings etc.  If that's a "cruising lifestyle" it doesn't sound fun.

First week of June Jewel, Majesty and Empress will be in Southampton.

That's only to drop off crew - likely nothing to do with any start up plans.

I realize that, that's old news. Stranger things have happened.

Here is the article I saw which mentions China sailings as of 1 July

The prices are so high ($300ppd on shorter sailings) that only the most desperate would book the July sailings - might be the way RCI controls capacity.

“Resume cruise operations in China for July1.”

Did I read that correctly ?

I am assuming that passengers on those cruises will be from China or other Asian countries.

There is a travel ban in the US involving travel to/from China presently. I hope this ban continues given the misery that the  Covid-19 has caused for millions of people in hundreds of countries world-wide. No need to travel to a country where  the first cases of this deadly virus was first reported,IMHO. No need to expose travelers to this deadly virus, repeating what happened this past January.

Curious to see if these China based cruises do begin after July 1 and if subsequent cases of Covid-19 occur during or after such cruises.

Is RCCL considering the health and well-being of their customers or their wallets ?

I want to cruise badly, I love it and have another one planned for 5/2021, The nurse in me says I don't see how there could be any cruises in 2020. There is so much to consider cruise ships and passengers, vendors etc will be required to do. Just watching the crowds of people this weekend, no masks, no social distancing. I fear we are going to get a whiplash from moving too fast. I am in my 70s and have some medical issues, but not serious. I also understand that I am in a high risk age group. I feel the old and/or medically compromised will never cruise again. It's like Logan's Run, or a form of genocide, the old and sick will have to bend to the will of the young and healthy, they feel we have lived our lives and are draining the system. I pray I am wrong.

About ninety percent of their passengers on most sailings from Shanghai were Chinese anyway.  I can see reduced capacity, only Chinese nationals sailings happening.  Possibly with no stops outside China   Things appear to be far more under control there than in the US at this point.

Most all those Chinese cruises are going to Japan during the now postponed Olympics.  The prices are very  expensive for 4 and 5 day cruises.

Here is my fear.

We are doing some really stupid things here in the US.  Don't need to post the pictures of the idiots in Lake of the Ozarks, or nose to tail lines to get into retail stores, bars wall to wall with patrons, all without masks.

But if cruising does start first week of August (and I honestly think we may be stupid enough to do it) and there are a couple of outbreaks, even if minor, cruising as a vacation choice will largely be done forever.
And I really like to cruise.  Over 1200 days on ships and 300 booked and deposited.

But not a minute before it is prudently the right thing to do.  And August ain't it.

I do worry about an outbreak on a sailing but if the cruiselines wait for a vaccine to sail, they may go belly up.  I think that whenever they start sailing, they have to have a plan for how to deal with the sick passengers.  I think if they handle it correctly they will be ok.
