So what?  Have we forgotten what country is actually responsible for this?  China!  COVID is the fault of neither of us.   This cross-border finger-pointing crap is getting really old.

Why, at this point, does it matter which country is responsible?  There is already an investigation going on into that.  What matters right now is dealing with the virus and making sure the pandemic doesn't get worse, spread further, or get more spikes in infection.

Should we blame the Caribbean for hurricanes?

Absolutely! I believe that many, many early North American cases of COVID came from Europe (think Montreal, Toronto, New York). From travellers.

Other North American cases came from China to the West Coast, and to Washington State in particular.  But really, who cares whether the virus came from Europe, or China, or somewhere else?  It arrived, it spread by community transmission, and the rest is history.

In a city close to where we live there has been some relaxation.   Two separate family gatherings have so far accounted for an additional 10 cases of cv.   Of course, not one of the family members who attended either gathering were remotely aware that they had actually contracted the virus.

More are anticpated as health officials trace contacts of those who were at the gatherings and subsequented tested positive.

It spreads so easily.  That is the one of the dangers  of easing restrictions AND having people potentially drop the recommended  safety precautions.

A  very large number of islands in the  Carribbean have closed their ports to cruise ships for a least some soon upcoming months.

Off the top of my head:  I think the  list includes:  BVI,  St. Barts, Barbados,Martinique, USVI,  Cayman Islands, Aruba etc

opening up to qualified nations.

Canada has only one land border which is currently closed to non-essential travel and the ports are closed to cruise ships that come from pretty much the same shared border country.  Canada is not spooked....

I'd beg to differ and say we are spooked and I'm happy to live with spooks until this pandemic is defeated or at least controlled.

Ok.  Me, I’d say it’s informed, sound, cautious judgement.

Interesting that Canada is still so spooked.  Italy and other European nations are opening up to qualified nations.

No, Canada is being smart, and placing life above profit.  If that's called being spooked, well so be it.  But as to opening up to qualified nations, our one land border would still have to stay closed to our neighbours.

I'm hoping they would open the booking for next fall's Pacific Coast cruise soon so we can just switch to that. But if they don't, we'll just cancel by the end of June as well.

Hope they'll have the exact same itinerary next year (and there's vaccine by then...)! And I hope I'll be able to see some of you!

Hi!  I think maybe you meant to post this on our Sept. 26 roll call?

The principal reason for the closure is that Canada is taking the advice of health care professionals and specialists over the questionable advice of politicians.

Canadians being deferential people, I thought they deferred to their politicians.  "Peace, order, and good government," or something like that.

In this case I for one prefer to defer to our medical professionals who put our health first whereas politicians are more concerned with their political health as they do their bit to protect citizens.

Politicians are the same all over.  Job 1 for them is getting elected/re-elected..  Then comes the polls.  Then taking care of people who helped them get elected, then the ones who donated to the party etc. etc.  Canada is not different in that respect to any country that has free elections.

Joe public is well down that list.  I do not think that we trust our politicians any more than do our neighbors to the south.  Hard to defer sometimes to a politician who you do not trust-either actions or motives.  Most especially at election time!

COVID 19 was identified in 2019 in Wuhan, China, and spread from there.

The first known case of the Spanish Flu was at Camp Funston in Fort Riley, Kansas, (USA) on March 11, 1918, and spread from there.

Norwalk Virus was identified from an outbreak in an elementary school in Norwalk, Ohio (USA) in 1972 and spread from there.

COVID 19 is still spreading and killing people.

Spanish Flu killed many millions around the world.

Norwalk Virus is still spreading, and killing people.

We could blame the Chinese for the COVID 19 problems.

We could blame the USA for the Spanish Flu and Norwalk Virus problems.

Or we could just get on with fixing the problems.

Like you, I am also tired of the "finger pointing crap".

Here's a column from The Globe and Mail, titled:  "In the war on Covid-19, Canadians are deferential, Americans defiant.  Who's right?"  The column states that, compared to Americans, "Canadians have been more submissive, willing to heed the government's desire to extend the lockdown with hardly a word of dissent."  The column continues:  "Canadians' deferential tendencies have been around since the counterrevolutionary United Empire Loyalists fled north, leaving the American revolutionaries behind."

I agree.  I am tired of the finger pointing.

A recent report from B.C. in Canada states that the virus came from China, Europe, The United States and Eastern Canada.  Apparently they can track it by the slightly different strains.

No point in blaming someone.  It’s here and we need to deal with it.
