Staysure have just quoted us £750 for a two week cruise in Europe. We are both over 70 with medical conditions but nothing life threatening. That’s a lot of money.

Does seem a lot, and I wonder how much of that is down to Coronavirus.  Staysure is an odd company - it gets very good feedback for price and ease of purchase, but when you look at the claims feedback it's rather different (and that's what counts!).

For example:

Which? Customer Score: 34th out of 40 travel insurers

Which?'s rating for customer satisfaction, based on feedback from real customers. The score is made up of a customer's overall satisfaction with the brand, and how likely they are to recommend that brand.

Anybody here with any claims experience?

Not the way negotiations are currently going with the EU. No deal’s looking increasingly likely, with all the chaos at the ports that’ll bring, and reciprocal health agreements may also be a casualty. Wonderful.

This is typical of all EU negotiations, they never want to make a decision even a minute earlier than necessary.   But Boris will not let them drag this one out much beyond August  so we should know fairly soon.

My annual travel insurance is due for renewal next month. It is part of the bank account so I have a choice. Leave it with world cover or change to the one with Europe only for £10 a month less, or even the account with no travel insurance for £20 per month less. I don't see me going abroad this year and next year maybe the first of two local cruises to reach my bucket list total of 50 so I could just have single trip insurance. Now the complicated bit of getting the bank account changed. I had already decided that after 50 cruises I would visit all the places in the UK that I have missed over the years and I don't need insurance for that.

When I was a kid in the 50's my dad's factory motoring club used to organise day trips out. When you start looking at UK gems to visit I can recommend.............Leysdown. Not too far for you😁

That's intereting, my quote for the two of us was £476.  That was annual, both over 70, in fact one is 81 with a couple of conditions.

We are similar but paid less than that with staysure for worldwide Annual with cruise cover. It expires at the end of next January, so will no doubt go up.

What a great idea! - P&O could put a cruise on from Southampton to the Isle of Sheppey!

My husband received an e-mail from his insurance company saying that, as there are not likely to be any holidays for some time, they had extended his cover for a further 3 months. This means that our Iona cruise in February 2021 will be covered. He rang them this morning to check if he was covered for Covid19. They said that as he had taken out the policy before 13 March, he would be.

Just did another quote with Staysure and it has come down!  Now £458 for annual including cruise cover and also for 15 months.  Covid covered for emergency medical and repatriation, but if you get it before you go, no cover for cancellation.

I’m not being complacent in this very difficult time but Jean has had a positive result from her insurance company as we have had. I know February 2021 is a long way off but it is a feel good factor to be able to think we may actually be able to cruise again. Especially as we are missing our much anticipated cruise to the Baltic planned for June 14th to celebrate my 70th and our 20th wedding anniversary.

If we all wait until it is safe to go out, we will never go out.

Life has always been full of risks and now there is one more to manage - each person must decide, within the guidance offered, what they will do regarding venturing back into the world and then have the courage to go for it.

One thing is for sure - if we never venture out again we will all die indoors.

Statistics show that the bed is the most dangerous piece of furniture in a house - most people die in one.

Major difference in assessing risk;

Going out is far different, to paying thousands of pounds to increase your risk, by mixing with thousands of others!

Does not take courage, just common sense!

With Covid 19

39,369 have done so in the UK

381,706 have done so world wide

So far! that's why the bed is dangerous! at this time.

Out of how many?.

Not how many, but how much!

The active cases in the world are increasing every day.

Yes maybe because of testing, but that figure is only giving the found cases!

What is undiscovered?

After the cancellation of our second cruise this year, meaning we will have none during this years annual travel insurance period, I thought I would check with our broker to seek their advice on whether to cancel.

However he apologised that he had absolutely no idea what to advise, they have had dozens of messages from all the insurance companies they deal with and each one changes the terms back and forth on how they intend to handle policies post covid19, all of them different and often contradictory.

Currently if we renewed we would get medical cover for covid19, but not cancellation and curtailment (Canc & Curt), although we would get Canc & Curt for anything else, but in the circumstances he just could not speculate on what the situation would be in November when its due for renewal. About the only thing certain is that we would need to keep the current insurance if we needed to claim for any Canc & Curt on one of our future cruises before November, non covid of course.

Not very helpful, but does show the chaos covid is having on all aspects of business.

My specialist travel insurer has promised me some exciting news this week. Will it be that Covid-19 cover is being reinstated? Fingers and toes crossed!

Do tell us who this is?  I believe you are allowed to say the name of insurance companies.
