Yacht Club - drinks package? Advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I'm hoping to book MSC Seaside yacht club level for February 2021.  I can't seem to find information on the drinks package that included with yacht club.  Some posts seem to say that the drinks are unlimited in the yacht club area itself only - but other posts seem to indicate the drinks are free in all bars and restaurants on the ship?  I've only ever sailed Aurora level previously and we always paid for the Premium Plus package upgrade as I love champagne cocktails.  I'm just wondering if I need to purchase the same drinks package for yacht club level or if it's already included.

All help much appreciated.  Thank you.

Boco is correct. Also, when in the YC area I didn’t have any issues with ordering liquor & champagne in excess of the $12 limit.

That was my experience also, and the drinks at the lower end of the Premium+ package (available in YC) were often available in venues outwith YC.

We always travel in YC and upgrade our drink package to premium+.  There are many high end wines and champagnes by the glass that are not covered with the YC package (inside or outside the YC area). We found many items last cruise were priced now at $13 and above but with the Premium + package, we did not need to worry.

Its equivalent to the Premium Drink Plan and it works all over the ship.

For an additional $17 per person per day, you can upgrade to the Premium Plus which is literally anything you want.

I was quite satisfied with the beverages available as a YC guest without having any other type of beverage package.  My preferred beverages were available anywhere on the ship except for Villa Maria and green Creme de Menthe which was totally unavailable anywhere on the ship.

The Top Sail Lounge did have an extremely potent version of a type of green Creme de Menthe.  Totally unacceptable as far as I was concerned as an after dinner drink.  Drinking a normal shot glass of the stuff:  I'd need a Butler to escort me to my suite!

We've also found free drinks throughout the ship when cruising YC.

The only time we've had a "issue" is when we use our black card freebie in Chops (lol mind freeze - whatever its called on MSC).

More than once they've said we have to pay for drinks in there - but by the time the Manager has seen me leave to get drinks from an adjacent bar, they've usually had a change of heart and the drinks become included lol

My wife and I have never had an issue with drinks as part of YC, but I guess if you want to pay for a product they aren't going to turn away your cash.

Actually, that's not strictly true - try getting a lager and lime on any cruise and you get blank faces. Ive lost count of the number of times Ive got a lime wedge or even a side plate of cut limes lol

Butcher's Cut.

Though, the steaks in the YC are pretty good on their own

This post has a photo from the Topsail Lounge extra-cost liquor price list. If you scroll up a couple of posts in that thread, I also posted a photo of the included liquors. Hopefully this helps. This is from the Seaside in January.

I wanted to drink Hendricks, but I didn't care about it enough to pay extra for it, and they never offered to just give it to me even though in theory it was just $1 more than the $12 limit.

Limes!  Several years ago we had a butler on Norwegian who kept giving us lemon slices when I asked him for lime.  Once I went to the bar and did receive them.  Coming back to our suite I saw him and said "see, I'm doing your job."  He smiled and the next day I received......lemon wedges.

Now  I understand.

Will we be able to get a glass of champagne at dinner on our next MSC YC Cruise next summer?

we did not have issue with this last year .

seems like anything can happen to amenities in YC before next year.

Drinks are available throughout the ship at no charge. You get the Premium pkg with the YC. The Premium Plus is an upgrade, which I haven't used. Other than top shelf brands, I believe the biggest difference in the fridge in the cabin. With the std pkg, they will refill only beer and wine, and with the plus pkg, they will refill anything, liquor included.

We like high end liquor and wines so in November on Seaside we upgraded to premium plus for 17 a day each , we found this to be a bargain for us at least , this includes everything sold by the glass . We were able to drink 20 plus year old scotch like Johnny Walker blue, XO cognacs , better wines . We visited the champagne bar most days which is outside the YC . If your picky on drinks I would upgrade, but for most people normal premium is fine.

Current list of Drink packages on MSC show what is included in each package. This

List includes Non-alcoholic and soda packages along with Easy, Premium and Premium Plus drink packages.  It is also broken down by region sailing (Europe or Caribbean)
My concern is that champagne by the glass is only listed for Premium Plus.  As is mini fridge refills and room service.  It would be helpful I’d they had a column for YC and indicate what they include for that.

This is an interesting conversation to me.  I am learning.

I know a simple green Creme de Menthe is not a premium liquor (although I once brought home a bottle of a French brand that was better than any others that I have drank).  But, why, would such a simple liquor not be routinely stocked on a ship?  "Cocktails of the past" seem to be making a comeback.  Wouldn't that include a Grasshopper?
