You are not sailing this year at all. Lets stop the illusion

Recommended Posts

So the CDC meeting was yesterday.

What came out of it? Red light, yellow light, and green light protocols.

Florida, where I live has now had several of the all time new cases in the last week. We are surging in new cases thanks to easing.

Miami Dade is the biggest hot spot here. So tens of thousands are not flying in.

The travel industry is afraid and they keep up the hype.

If they said tomorrow.....all cruises cancelled til 2021, what would happen?

Millions of people would cancel now, take the cash and gut the cruise companies.

They would lay off many. The stocks would drop.

The only reason they keep pushing it off a little at a time is to keep cash coming in. You keep booking, and they wait until after final payment to cancel. Then you have a weeks window to request a cash refund, then take 90 days to refund you.

The big question that is not answered by any cruise line is......What if you get a case onboard again?............

Until they can answer that you are not sailing. Remember Diamond Princess.

A few weeks ago I was caught up in it, booking for May and June after I had my Spirit cruise cancelled a few months back. Sadly I have $20,000 in FCC now thanks to the Jewel being cancelled for early 2021.

Rates are real high as they try and offset the FCC given out. I think now the best bet once cruising starts is to book last minute.

Done venting!

Steve

I won’t book until the last minute, either.  Has nothing to do regarding cruising this year or next.  I don’t think there’s going to be any choice but to book last minute in order to have any confidence that the ship will sail.

🤣 I wouldn’t be able to cruise this year anyway as my job and my husbands require 14 day quarantine for any flights you take or cruises. We both can’t be away for that long but I really do love watching these boards to see what is happening.

Then we fly somewhere where the cdc has no say and sail there.

Sorry, I'm not going to live my life hiding in my house. I'm willing to take the risk (along with appropriate precautions). I expect that ships will be sailing by fall, though I expect that there will be changes.

I feared that some states would open to soon (in may) and people would be on top of each other and not use precautions,  and could ruin the august plan for some small ships to start up.  Smh.

I think the lack of social distancing during the protests/riots may have contributed to some of the surge.

Why do you think that if you don't cruise you have to hide in your house?  One thing has nothing to do with the other.  There are lots of outdoor activities and even vacations that you can take safely that don't involve thousands of people flying in from all areas of the world and staying together for a week crowded onto a cruise ship.)

If you truly are hiding in your house now and you want your first outing to be mixing in a crowd of thousandsthat have come from all over the world, I would strongly warn you against that.

You also have to consider that while YOU may be willing to risk getting sick, if you do get sick on a cruise ship there is going to be no way to prevent you from making OTHER people sick.

I just hope all the people lobbying for cruises to begin again are prepared in the event they spend 30 days at sea in quarantine and don’t come back complaining afterwards. Not any specific poster here, just in general.

cruise with 3000+ people in close quarters....very likely chance of someone testing positive. And what port, in the US or abroad, is going to let them dock after what has happened these last 4 months?

I agree.  While I love to cruise, I did cancel my reservation for November.  I will wait and see how things develop, but have no intention of sailing anytime soon.

Id rather be stuck on the ship 30 days then home.  I was stuck on one during harvey. Casino , good food, free drinks. Sign me up.

I’m pretty sure if Someone tests positive on a ship all that is closed and your confined to your cabin, in quarantine. Food delivered to your room. No casino. No bars. 1000 less channels on TV. Entire cabin the size of 1 room in your house. And if your one of the unlucky soles who booked an inside room...no outside light.

I’ll pass

Is your amount for more than 1 person  and would include the bonus?     I never spend those kind of rates and have had 5 cruises canceled so far, -  2 more coming up in August.

Yes you have good points.   But this is also a very unpredictable time.   Decisions can not be made very far ahead,  and are constantly changing.    Never-  did I think or even envision this happening.

This is why we won’t be sailing again until they have a definitive answer to this question and we see 2-3 months of multiple ships sailing with no full-ship quarantines.

that's exactly they way it would happen. Quarantined on a ship would not be a floating vacation, you would definitely be confined to your stateroom. As another said,  we pass.

However they could just quarantine the passangers that test positive or have symtoms.  Since we all would have been exposed anyway.  But yeah that wont be fun if they did quarantine everyone separately.
