Did they ever find out what "unknown object" the ship struck?  Surely all rocks and reefs are on nautical charts so what the heck did they hit leaving Freeport? I always thought it odd.

I do not know that. But if you do not know Carnival is called the Fun Ship for one reason. The got stuck in the beginning of offering cruises and gave free drinks, an open bar, for everyone. Thus "The FUN Ships)
