When should you book excursions?

I have 2 non-cruise excursions planned for my family in Cabo and PV. I don't want to book too early in case the excursion/tour operators go out of business before the cruise. The Cabo excursion is the same offered by the cruise line but is $33 more than if I book directly online with the tour group. In PV, the cruise line does not offer the excursion and when I checked with the operator, one of the time slots was already full. Both operators have a 24-hr cancellation policy, but is it too early to book?

When are you talking about being there? If it is before January, I would certainly hold off. There is low chance you will sail any time before January 1.

We sail March 20. Obviously, I'm a type-A planner since we are still 8+ months away.

I would wait till you get closer to sail date.

You might find that the Cabo tour company is not willing to sell you the tour directly.  The cruise lines tends to impose such a restriction on local tour companies, and the cruise companies have the power to enforce this.

All tourism-related businesses are at risk of bankruptcy right now. What good is a money back guarantee if the business doesn't exist? 

 

You can easily wait until much closer to your date to book the tour without any risk of being shut out.
