It is a pretty state (I may be a bit biased🙂). I've been to many of our states (around 23 I think) and wouldn't mind going to the ones that I've not been to, so maybe we'll do that.

We took the government payment and bought a hot tub, which we use every day. If we never sail again, we'll probably supplement the hot tub with a pontoon boat and spend our days down in the Indian River fishing. It's all good 😷

What payout?  Yeah, we don't qualify.  But, we have saved money not cruising.  Paid of DH's new car after one year and now have the cash to redo our master bathroom which is large so it won't be cheap.

It started as a straight 6, drum brakes, automatic, with a manual top.  We put it through a two year frame off restoration. It’s now a 289, 4 speed top loader, power top, pony interior, front disc brakes, and power steering.  We went with a fibreglass Shelby style hood for better airflow and heat release, ungraded wheels and rubber, and fog lights. We also used new old stock steel where applicable.
 

We built it the way we wanted it.  The car was frame on restored in 1978, by the second owner and I am the third. The car was originally sold 200 miles from where it lives now. The second owner, was my insurance agent until he retired and was one of my dad’s best friends.  He also spoke at my father’s funeral.  I like that it has ties even back to my youth, riding in it as a 10 year old. 
 

It is a fun car that runs very strong and cool.

Firstly i will be so sad if cruising is over

Cruising has it all - for us as a family

Entertainment for my husband and i (and our daughter when she is not meeting new people at the teen club)

Loads of things to do for our teen daughter - during the day by the pool, some of the club entertainment, at sea fun days

Loads of restaurants to choose with loads of variery

The shows and entertainment

The drinks at bar/lounges

Music venues

Freedom to do whatever suits everyday /night

Being on the ocean - the views and just sailing

Getting to different places if you want to get off the ship

Meeting loads of new people

We dont go to casino much but i do go at least once

Where else would you get all that plus more in the one holiday.Absolutely no where so i know we would struggle at first to see what we wanted. We dont want to go do a beach holiday cos really imo thats all there is sunbathing during day with no entertainment and then dinner and drinks with no entertainment at night.

 

Yes there are places in USA i would love to visit like Nashville, Miami again, and loads more but i would like to do them by adding them on to a cruise.

 

We live in UK but we would not chose to holiday in UK.

 

I really dont know where we would go for holidays if we have sailed our last cruise. I really dont know.

 

But i think we will need to start thinking of what we can do for next year as i am afraid to say i dont think it will be a cruise  (if cruising is still here next year as i think it will be a goner if the restrictions remain)

Even retired we won't.   Most of our neighbors didn't either.  I retired in March and DH is retiring in 3 years.  Income based doesn't take other demographics into account.  Higher cost of living area = higher incomes for most.  Anyway, vacations of all kinds are changing so more are doing things like you did.  Buying pools, boats, etc.

We're also in UK and I agree its difficult with teenage children but you have the whole of Europe on your doorstep. Maybe do some road trips through France, Spain and Italy. Hire a camper van for more freedom. 

We are in our 60's and last year bought electric bikes that can be used on or off road and they are great fun. I watched the Larry Lamb series yesterday, he is in his 70's and is travelling all over UK on electric bikes with his adult son. They were in Pembrokeshire yesterday, it looked stunning. Short term we are off to Cornwall next week to visit family and reconnect with that beautiful part of the world

Still remember Silver Springs boat tour.   We have a travel trailer and go back to Florida at least once a year - we like the Saint Augustine area (North Beach camp ground) or the state parks.  My scuba diving club in Miami used to go camping every 'winter' when the water was less than 80 degrees.  We'd have a meeting every year to plan out the places to go (reservations at state parks at least 11 months in advance or forget it!) especially in the Keys.  We've been to Rainbow Springs, Wekiwa Springs, Blue Spring, any place where there is water.  Lake Kissimmee, Myaka State Park, Peace River, gosh there are so many places. But, since we moved to South Carolina, we're enjoying discovering all the state parks here and in Georgia.  Georgia has some good parks for hurricane evacuation (which we've had to do 4 times out of the 5 years we've lived here- go figure!).

I got to play in a few pick-up games at the old field house at Nassau Community College. Art Heyman (a good Oceanside boy) would play. My being on the same court was comical. I also got to play against Billy King when he was a teenager at a student/faculty game in Sterling, VA.

I’m a diver as well but no longer dive after I turned 60. Dove all the Keys and almost every spring and sink we could find. Dove Blue Springs (Orange City) almost every Wednesday night through high school. It wasn’t a Park back then.  Eagles Nest, Zuber, Blue Grotto, and other sink holes. Springs up and down Florida and the West coast before they all got overrun and protected. Gainesville area was great for Spring diving.

Where did you play ball, Lenny ?

I played a little in college ,a lot of playground in Brooklyn and for two seasons in the Insurance League .I played with and against some great players who nobody ever heard of .

However,in 2011 a guy in Indiana released a documentary about my friend Roger Brown and I contributed to the making of the film which was in theaters all over the US ,on PBS stations and I believe is still on You Tube.

Roger played for the Pacers and is in the Hall Of Fame.

I knew Art Heyman but never on the court.I met him when he owned a bar in Manhattan.

I know of him but never dove with him. We dove out of Titusville and hooked up with Hal Watts and his group out of Central Florida. Mr Exley mapped most of the big and deep springs/sinks. 
 

I forgot to add Devils Den. I dove it as recent as 2012 for a training dive.

When they were still living, we lived across the street from a lovely elderly cpl.  They loved to talk about their son, Sheck, who had passed in a diving accident long before we moved in.  I had no idea who he was.
 

Then, one day I was in their house and I saw a picture of him all geared up with four tanks in the water.  I thought to myself that’s not normal.  After I saw his world record depth dive plaque on one of their walls, I went home and looked him up on the Internet.  OMG.

Yes. He was old school and contributed to many of the upgrades and mixed gases used today. He died in a deep diving event at 960’ Mexico, I think early to mid 90’s. 
 

That’s a cool experience to have talked with his parents. He was responsible for mapping out a lot of the Florida Springs and Sinks.

People in the US buying  bikes and campers now is getting big. Can hardly find any bikes to buy and prices are really high if you find some.
