Rare twangster Posted August 31, 2020 Author #228 Share Posted August 31, 2020 I haven't forgotten about this thread, I just need to save bandwidth until Sept. 1st. Working from a cellular connection at the moment. More to come.

Rare twangster Posted September 1, 2020 Author #232 Share Posted September 1, 2020 As we approach the crowds thicken and the weather starts to improve. Time to hop into NorthStar.
Rare twangster Posted September 1, 2020 Author #233 Share Posted September 1, 2020 We are fortunate as Quantum class doesn't get to Hubbard often. Even Zan Ma and Li Bao were excited for their first visit to an Alaskan Glacier.
RedDirtTurquoiseWater Posted September 1, 2020 #234 Share Posted September 1, 2020 Does the North Star feel like a Wonkavator? Our Alaska cruise was pushed a year. Boo for that but hooray! for your trip. Looking at my calendar and searching for the closest Royal Transporter.
Rare twangster Posted September 1, 2020 Author #235 Share Posted September 1, 2020 Hubbard Glacier is 7 miles wide and the face is 350' above the waterline so we're talking about a lot of ice. Here's a flashback to some calving action caught from Radiance who got a little closer than Ovation did.

I've never had the pleasure of a Wonkavator. North Star is quite smooth and the motion of the ride isn't even something I think about, I'm too much into the views. It's a perspective you won't find on any other class of ship or cruise line.

Rare twangster Posted September 2, 2020 Author #238 Share Posted September 2, 2020 (edited) In Alaska at a glacier? Might as well go for a ride on a FlowRider. Wake views... Edited September 2, 2020 by twangster
Rare twangster Posted September 2, 2020 Author #239 Share Posted September 2, 2020 (edited) Sharing is caring and her comes Radiance. Time for another ship to have a spin at Hubbard Glacier so let's jump over to Radiance for some close ups. Rare twangster Posted September 2, 2020 Author #242 Share Posted September 2, 2020 All good things must come to and end including a day at Hubbard Glacier. I could spend several pages on Hubbard Glacier but this is just a sampler to illustrate why I love cruising in Alaska so much. I really miss Alaska, fingers crossed hoping for a quick return. Doh! In my haste to jump over to Radiance I left my SeaPass card on Ovation. I need to jump back over now since it was free on short range. Please enjoy this relaxing aft view Hubbard sail away as I make my way back to Ovation.

Rare twangster Posted September 4, 2020 Author #244 Share Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) There's nothing like waking to a beautiful brand new day. When that occurs in the Alaskan Inside Passage it's so much better. ProTip - Don't sleep in while in Alaska even if you are not a morning person. It can be pretty spectacular. How about a quick time lapse? Edited September 4, 2020 by twangster
Rare twangster Posted September 4, 2020 Author #245 Share Posted September 4, 2020 Since we are nearby let's pop into Juneau. The Alaskan Inside Passage is used to reach ports of call such as Juneau which turns out to be the Capital of Alaska and a staple of many Alaska cruise itineraries. A quintessential element of Alaska is the float plane and while visiting Juneau it's hard not to see some. These work horses have been a big part of making Alaska what it is today. So it seems fitting to do the short walk over to the Seaplane base and go for a ride.
