I noticed today the Sun and the Gem are docked in Aruba. This might sound like a dumb question......But Why? Hurricane season? Cheaper to keep them there vs anchored around the Bahamas? Just curious....

I am not a meteorologist (aka weather man) but hurricanes in the Atlantic vector away from the equator

and generally follow a track across the greater Antilles (Cuba Puerto Rico) a rather more northerly transition

than across the lesser Antilles (the ABC islands Barbados).

But hurricanes don't have an interstate highway to follow so watch out for the off roaders !

Sun is due for some class surveys in Aug, Gem for some in Oct, both the nearby Curacao shipyard and available class surveyors may be part of the reason, and Aruba has unrestricted crew changes (with masks and tests), so that may be another reason.

Yes, crew changes is a big deal and the cruise lines need their ships in position to move people in friendly (and safer) ports as soon as a green light comes.  The US is worse than unfriendly (and less safe) right now.  Even with a CDC green light I bet we see state and local resistance for a while.
